It's probably the inlet valve, not the timer. If you check for voltage/drop at the valve wiring, you can be more sure. With one wire disconnected from the valve, you should see line voltage between the wires, when the unit is plugged in, and the timer is on in fill mode.

I've probably changed a hundred bad valves for every bad timer, if you don't have a voltage tester or just want to take a chance. They're cheaper too, and a little easier to change.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Stylemaster 4217141 tub not moving wash/spin cycles

Sounds like the drive belt is broken or very loose. Take off the back and check the belt. If loose or missing, tighten or replace. This is usually done by loosening the motor support bolts and moving the motor until the belt is tight, then re-tighten the bolts. Replace belt in the same way.

SOURCE: My Whirlpool washer won't agitate or spin . But it does drain the water.

i also had the same problem, and it ended up being the coupler. It was not hard to replace, it cost me about 19.00. I didn't follow full recomende instructions. I tipped the washer backwards. Removed the drain pump and the motor itself. Then I removed the old coupling and placed the new one. The washer is working like new...

SOURCE: washer stopping mid-cycle

Push down on lid. You may have a bad lid switch. Start machine and press the switch down with something like a screwdriver and see if the motor runs.

Kenmore 70 washer, does not move from one cycle to another

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

This appears to be a timer / timer motor problem.

I'd also look at the Whirlpool / Kenmore direct drive installation and maintenance manual for testing the timer.

I have a maytag top load washer model number MAV7757AWQ. It will not spin out ( water just sits ), until I manually move the timer to the spin cycle and restart. Is my timer bad ?

based on your description..the motor for the timer sounds like it is bad or one of the wires powering it came free of the motor terminal.. Does the dial spin after you start any wash setting? If not then I'd say your timer needs replacing.. Hope that helps

Ultimate II is refusing to go into agtation/wash cycle

It sounds like a bad timer unit, and possibly a lid switch.

As far as the water overfilling, that may be an unrelated problem, such as the water level switch... but most likely the timer.

I have the same model, and it wouldn't drain.. and it would try to spin when full of water... an interesting sight to see!
