How do I hook up a tv to a Sony D311 receiver

The Sony STR-D311 only has analog audio inputs. If your TV has an analog audio output, use the appropriate RCA cable (2 M/M plugs on each end, usually red and white). If your TV has a headphone jack, use a 3.5 mm to RCA adapter. However, if your TV only has digital audio outputs, you will need a digital to analog audio converter, like this: https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Optical-Analog-audio-converter/dp/B004C4WPXA . You will also need the appropriate analog audio and digital audio cables.

The manual for the receiver is on the product support page: https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-find.pl?mdl=STRD311 . The direct link to the manual is currently https://docs.sony.com/release//STRD311.PDF .

I hope this helps.

Can I hook up this receiver to a Panasonic Viera tv tc-L32C3

U need to get a digital to analog converter for the tv digital outputs on "tv mode." Connect the analog outputs to the audio input of receiver. I had same hassle with my Viera till I got another receiver that would take direct digital input - no more need for converter.

What does DTA mean on my tv/dvd 22" tv

DTA is a Digital Television Adapter (digital-to-analog converter box) It is a television tuner that receives a digital television transmission and converts the digital signal into an analog signal that can be received and displayed on a older analog tv.

Adding another device to the system

Well, if analog works for you connect the CD player's analog RCA cables to the VCR inputs.

Can you imagine why you NEED to have the TV audio coming into the receiver from the TV? Are the TV's audio system or speakers superior to the audio section of every other source of TV-related programming? We hope not. Does the TV receive any programming that the receiver can not? Maybe games. I imagaine this MIGHT justify running analog TV audio back to the receiver.

Your cable box and your DVD player have both digital and analog audio outputs. The gray area is what your TV has for audio inputs. It could survive with simple RCA analog audio in from both and none to or from the receiver. Then you could watch Lo-Fi cable and DVD's without the receiver turned on.

That would free up the TV analog audio input for other things.

I imagine your DVD player is using one of the digital inputs on the receiver. If you have one each optical and coaxial audio output among your DVD and Cable Box you could place them in the two available diigital inputs.

Now, what about the CD's digital output? For stereo music you're not likely to be able to hear any difference between it and the analog input BUT it can still be connected digitally IF it has a coaxial output. Coaxial digital inputs can be shared.

Get an RCA-splitter and join the two units entering the coaxial audio input just before they enter that connection. Either will work just fine if you TURN THE OTHER ONE OFF when you want to us it.

No analog comming out of receiver when optical input is used .

as a rule...in order to get analog audio out of a receiver, it must have an analog input. you could use a digital to analog converter between the tv and stereo or come out of both of your source devices (ps3, cable) with analog to the receiver. good luck

Windows media center can not find ir receiver

be sure you have installed the driver. If you are using windows 7 you still need to install the winTV driver. I know this because I had the same problem. It should work then. Just go to TV setting in the media center setup and it should scan for channels.

HP pc with built-in tv tuner

Have 9, 5 and 13 turned entirely digital as yet, so as to leave you without their signal?

From what you say, the tv tuner in your HP receives analog signals better than or instead of digital signals the stations you can receive may be analog while 9, 5, and 13 may have dispensed with their analog transmitters.

They don't have to until June, since the changeover was delayed from the original February cutoff date by Act of Congress. It is actually easier to receive a digital signal than an equally powered analog equivalent so the fact that your system worked so well with analog signals bodes well for the efficiency of your indoor antenna arrangement, though you may have to replace the possibly analog receiver in your pc with a usb digital thumbdrive like model to continue after the changeover is final.

Here's a tip...if the receiver in your pc resembles a square aluminum tin can, mounted on a PCI card in one of your slots, it is very likely analog and not digital.

Usually these receivers (or actually TUNERS) are heavily sheilded while digital receivers do not require the same amount of sheilding to avoid interference with other components, which is the concept of the big square tin can, that a digital tuner does not require.

Sony str-dg820. having a problem getting video on tv

Hook up Composite / Component Monitor Out wire from receiver to TV video input because receiver will not change analog input into HDMI
You need to connect receiver and TV through analog video terminals as above.
Actually you are expecting that receiver will convert DVD player and Xbox analog video input into digital HDMI signal for TV and This is incorrect.
