You will have to open up your network connections

Click start control panel network connections this may vary depending on your operating system look for local area connection if you see a red x or a yellow exclamation or question mark!?
you will need to update or install the driver or it could be firewalled.

Make sure your antivirus program is not blocking the internet connection.

If you are trying to connect through a modem/router you it should have come with a disk then
you might have to connect the usb lead to your modem to get a connection then

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll to network adapters should see a yellow question ? exclamationmark! or a red Xright click install drivers.

The driver might be on the disc supplied by your ISP internet service provider
or the motherboard disc

Rather doing a driver hunt which can take hours

Hi there
I assume that you are using the ethernet connection and have proved that there are no problems with the cable, wall socket, router, network generally,etc.
If so the first thing I would do is to go to the link below, select your product from the lists given and check the driver you have installed is the correct one for your operating system, as there is only one listed for your machine. The simplest way may be to simply download this driver and install it to see if this cures your problem.

Alternatively if you are using a wireless access point you will need to check which wireless adaptor you have and then down load the appropriate driver and install it.
If these both fail to correct the problem, and all the rest of the network components are fine, you may be looking at a gradual deterioration of the LAN hardware, in whci case you should consider repair, or just to check, obtain a USB wireless LAN adaptor and driver and try that. They are relatively cheap, and if the problems continue even after that then the cause must be outside of your laptop and its hardware.

I recommend checking the device manager of your operating system to see if the network adaptor is installed correctly. It sounds like it isn't, & therefore you need to use a different computer to go to the Acer Aspire One website, choose which model you have from the support / download page, and download the driver for your network adaptor.

I recently reinstalled Windows XP onto my computer and when I did it didnt recognize the driver for network adaptor. How do i get that adaptor driver?


Go to the Internet site for that adapter's manufacturer, and locate the drivers for that exact driver. Then download it and install it, and it should work fine.

Network adaptor and lack of sound


It sounds like you need to install the drivers for your NIC and your sound card.
Since you won't be able to connect to the internet with that computer until you have the NIC drivers, you will have to download them from a different computer, and copy them to a memory stick (pen drive) and then load them into your computer.

You will need to know the type of network card and sound card you have to be able to download the correct drivers.
