Question about Refrigerators

Frigidaire FRT21NNCW cannot maintain temperature

The refrigerator compartment does not maintain a consistent temperature. Sometimes it freezes. This has been the case for a while. Now it does not cycle off and on at all. If I set the control so the compressor kicks on, it works, but will then not go off unless I turn the control way down.

SOURCE: Freezer quits working

Solution Found! The problem is when the temperature surrounding the refrigerator in the garage falls to < 45 degrees, the thermostat regulating the refrigerator will not call for the compressor to kick in to provide cooling (it's temperature requirements are being met). Since there is no demand, the compressor will not cycle, which is how the freezer is kept cold, and the freezer eventually warms up to match the refrigerator temperature. Frigidaire makes a "Cold Kit" that I ordered and installed from for $22 (Item #: 1037646; Description: Garage kit). It's basically a strip heater that runs off the control power to warm the thermostat and causes the compressor to cycle once to twice a day to keep the freezer frozen. After installation, the refrigerator stays at 40-45 and the freezer stays around 0 degrees.

There are two things that could be happning....

1. The control is bad and when you manually turn it it will close and start the unit, but it will not close after it opens to stop the unit on it's own....
In other words... you touching it and moving it will get it to work, but it will not turn the unit on if there is no outside influence on it....

The possibility is that the compressor will not restart when warm...but once it cools down it will restart....
I don't think this is what is happening though... my bet is with the thermostat/control...

That is not that hard to fix and you can easily buy the parts yourself online...

Here is a tip that will help you with the online buying...

Compressor doesn't shut off

Good Morning Hans,

Generally speaking, depending on the surrounding temperature, the refrigerator can run between 32-65% of the day. Are the temperatures in both the refrigerator and freezer compartments maintaining properly inside the unit? If so, then more than likely the run time is more than likely normal operations and unit is operating properly. If it is over freezing, then the Freezer Cold Control may possibly be faulty. If it is not cooling properly, there could be sealed system failure or defrost issue. I hope this information helps to some degree.

Should you need further assistance you can go to the manufacturer website to find a service provider in near you. If there is anything else that I can help you with, please feel free to reconnect!

How to prevent Water line to dispensor from freezing

Hello Ceci Phillips - Start by confirming that there isn't any gap in the sealed and check for any ice or frost buildup on the back wall of the unit. Also try to maintain an above average temperature in the freezer compartment and that it is not too low. If issue continues that I would suggest contacting a professional to move forward accurately for a proper diagnoses.

My frigidaire side by side freezes

Hello orpheusingjap - From what you have describes it sounds like the damper door might be open causing the temperature to be too cold. Use a mirror to look at damper door at the rear of compartment and use a hair dryer on damper door to deice for 5 to 10 minutes. Allow 24 hours and if the temperature is still too cold, then I would have a professional look at the damper door for replacement.

refrigerator (commonly called a "fridge") is a cooling apparatus. The common household appliance comprises a thermally insulated compartment and a heat pump-chemical or mechanical means-to transfer heat from it to the external environment (i.e., the room in which it is located), cooling the contents to a temperature below ambient. Cooling is a popular food storage technique in developed countries and works by decreasing the reproduction rate of bacteria. The device is thus used to reduce the rate of spoilage of foodstuffs. A refrigerator maintains a temperature a few degrees above the freezing point of water. Optimum temperature range for perishable food storage is 3 to 5 °C (37 to 41 °F).[1] A similar device which maintains a temperature below the freezing point of water is called a "freezer".
The refrigerator is a relatively modern invention among kitchen appliances. It replaced the icebox, which had been a common household appliance for almost a century and a half prior. For this reason, a refrigerator is sometimes referred to as an "icebox

Milk and veggies in the fridge are freezing. We have turned the control to the warmest, but things are still freezing. Thoughts?

Make sure the damper at the bottom of the refrigerator compartment is close. If not, close it but not all the way. A small flow of cold air from freezer will be necessary to maintain a temperature of at least 40 degrees in the refrigerator compartment.Adjust damper as needed and use a thermometer to measure temperature over a period of time.

The blower motor inside the freezer compartment has a connector that sometimes goes bad or the wire breaks. Remove the shroud from the inside back of the freezer compartment and remove the connector from the motor and inspect it. You may have to replace the crimp connector or resolder it.

I believe this is normal behaviour in all auto defrost (which means virtually all modern) fridges. In fact, this short heating period is usually programmed to happen 2 to 3 times a day. You might rightly ask why the refrigerator compartment needs to undergo "defrost" cycles when the compartment is, if the refrigerator is operating correctly, above freezing? The reason is although the compartment is above freezing, its cooling coils are well below freezing temperature, and it's these coils that need the frequent defrosting, before they build up so much frost on them that they "ice up" and no longer allow the fan blown air that cools the refrigerator compartment to pass through them.

My Samsun RS2534ww side by side refridgerator will not maintain temperature on the fridge side. It consistantly warms up to between 50 and 60 degrees despite resetting the thermostat.

First thing to try is Powering off the FF at the mains supply and leaving it standing for 30 minutes. Make sure that you do not open any of the doors or touch any of the controls during this time. Then reconnect the power and wait for 30 to 60 minutes to see if the fault remains or is cured. Try defrosting the FF as despite common belief these units are not totally frost free.

In side by sides if the freezer side is working OK and the fridge side is not working correctly it means that air ducting has iced up or the air vent from the freezing unit to the fridge compartment has stuck in the closed or partially closed position which causes the fridge to not be any where near as cool as it should be. If it is too cold then the vent is stuck in the open position and the fridge temperature will continue to fall and become the same as the freezer, thereby freezing the contents of the fridge compartment. It can also get stuck in another position so that if the temperature is adjusted on the front panel then nothing happens to the temperature in the fridge compartment. The vent, which is usually at the top of the fridge compartment on the side where it joins the freezer compartment, is controlled by a small sync motor and either the motor has become faulty, the control module is faulty or the vent is iced up. It can be come iced up by putting too many hot items in the fridge so the steam condenses and freezes the vent in position and then the motor cannot open or close it causing it and / or the control module to become faulty. Other times it is just old age that causes the motor and / or the control module to fail. If the sync motor and vent are working OK then there may be a fault with the fridge temperature sensor or main on board controller that will mean that the sensor or the controller will need replacing.

Top mounted freezer on refrigerator not working

Move the refrigerator to a room that is at least 50 degrees F.

Temps on most refrigerators are regulated by the fresh foods temp. If your garage is let's say 35 degrees, the fresh foods temp will most likely never raise enough to turn the refrigerator on. With the refrigerator never running, the freezer compartment will warm to 35 degrees, resulting in everything melting. Even if garage is a bit warmer, say 45, the refrig will not run long enough for the freezer to maintain a low enough temperture. If the garage temp falls to below freezing, say 20 degrees, the food in the fresh foods compartment will freeze. (outdoor beverage dispensers have internal heaters to prevent product from freezing !) Please don't rate this if not a Fix-Ya for you, as anything else lowers my score.
