Question about Apple iMac Computers & Internet
Time capsule completes incremental backup and Maverick OS slows to snails pace, constant kaleidoscope ball running, apps won't open, close or respond, only solution is a re-boot then all is fine again - switched off time capsule to check and system runs fine, switch time capsule on again and system goes into snail mode after backup completes.
Use the App "Activity Monitor" to see what process is driving hard. if not already open: open the activity monitor window. Click the CPU% tab and show highest percentages at the top (should be an upside down triangle) may have to click the CPU% twice to do this. now the Activity monitor is showing you what processes are eating up your computers power. Google the process/es . It may be indexing the drive, which can take a long time. there are other processes too, that you should just let it do. once they are done, then things should be good. Such is the case for me when I upgraded to Mavericks.

Hi Sorry to hear you're having trouble,
There have been some recent updates for the Airport and Time Capsule product line.
One of the many features of these products is that when an update is available, the green light turns amber ( a little weaker than the error yellow color )
Try connecting to is and see if it is awaiting an update..
Usually, the error yellow indicates a problem that would either prevent it from operating properly or that your network is unacceptably exposed to the outside internet.

is your hard drive full? if it is clean it out. How much ram do you have...max it out. This is an old machine and it's not very fast..it hasn't been made in four years or more.
what system are you using? Maybe it's time for a faster computer or a faster computer.

These files are usually contained in the temporary internet file's solder. For opening, go to Run and type %temp% and enter. A folder will come up showing all internet files. Delete all and reboot the Mac. This will speed it up.
Don't worry, temporary internet files are not useful. they can be retained when you get something from internet. When you download, the files from internet will be downloaded with some accompanying temporary files. Delete them after the download is complete. After downloading, they are completely loss of Space on Desktops.
Thank you Sir, Have a nice day.

SOURCE: Slow running mac
There are a number of reasons that may causing a Mac computer running slow, but generally two factors: hardware part & system part. For hardware part: I guess it's OK if your Mac is not that old. For system part: there might be a lot of junk files, caches, registry errors... about 80% slow Mac caused by this reason, if so, try cleaning the system. Testimonial: "Thank you...as I mentioned I paid $400 with a monitor from CRAIG'S LIST and I was naive enough (stupid actually) not to ask the kid for the OS X install disc, when I saved the backup, I must have forgotten to SAVE USER SETTINGS, because know NONE of the GREAT PROGRAMS which were probably pirated seem to work now asking for serial numbers the "
