Beater bar won't turn

The belt may look ok but they lose elasticity and should be replaced at least every 6 months to deep clean properly. The beater bar may have debris stuck in the endcaps which keeps them from spinning freely. Depending in what vacuum you have, some have a separate motor which turns the beaterbar. If yours has a separate motor it could be the motor, the switch, the wiring or a variety of other possibilities.

Brush won't rotate

Undo the screws for the housing pull out the beaterbar and remove any string or hair. Put a new belt on the beaterbar then put the bearings back into their slots and gently put the other end of the belt over the motor shaft.

That means you had too much hair in your beaterbar or that you had the vacuum set too low to the floor. The beaterbar stopped turning and the rubber belt was slipping creating friction and heating to the point of melting. When you vacuum check often that the powerhead (beaterbar) is moving. If the belt ever slips it stretches or melts in half and must be replaced.
If you were referring to the motor then there isn't much you can do but replace the motor.

The pump motor hums but wont start

unplug machine and see if you can turn the brush in the head. if the brush can be turned then the motor is probably burnt out. if the head is hard to move then there is something stuck in there preventing the motor to turn. there is usually a belt from the head to the motor.

hope this helps

I own a Hoover Steam Vac Plus w/ Rotating Brushes (model#F5871-900), when I turn on the power I hear a medium-loud hum coming from the motor area and nothing works. What could be the issue?

the motor sounds locked up. Water gets in there and rusts the pieces together. The motor could be replaced, but probably not repaired.

Can't lower beater bar - so won't pick up lint

the small tube under the hover goes stiff and the beater bar wont go lower enough so youve got to get small tube under hover soft and than set beaterbar to the ground let it go hard and may solve your problem many thanks nick...
