For the direct code entry, turn on the device that you want the remote to control. Find the codes for that brand of device. Then press and hold the appropriate device button (TV, for example). The on-off button will light up and remain lit. While holding the device button, enter the first four digit number for that make of device. The on-off button will turn off while you press the digits in the code and then come back on. Release the device button and check if the light for the on-off button turns off or blinks 4 times. If it flashes, the code was not properly entered or isn't a valid code. If the light turns off, check if the remote controls all of the functions of the device.
If you didn't enter a correct code or the remote doesn't control all of the features of the device, repeat the steps above. (Either correct the original code that you entered or enter another code for the manufacturer/device.)
Please note that universal remotes have code lists that are limited to those for devices released 6 months or more before the remote was programmed. If your device is newer, then you may need a new remote.
