It is safer to remove the battery for two minutes.
If there is any residual charge in the system, and you use the jumper, you can damage the motherboard.

If you insist on using the jumper:
First unplug the power supply then push the start button to ensure the system has no charge, then change the jumper for about ten seconds.
Put the jumper back in the original position, plug the power supply back in, and you can boot he system .

Tip

A. By Using the Motherboard Jumper: In most motherboards CMOS battery is...

There are two passwords in BIOS. One is start up password, the other isBIOS setting password. If you have forgotten the start up password thatmeans you cannot open computer at all. Then the first method is theonly thing you can do. Other methods can use to clear setting password.
==①:Motherboard Battery Discharge==
The common way toreset start up password is discharge Motherboard Battery. Most of thecurrent motherboard BIOS is using the button batteries to provideelectric power. That means if there is no electricity, the informationit contains will be lost. When it’s on power again, BIOS will set backto its original state, of course, there will be no BIOS passwords. Butyou will lose your setting at the same time.
What we need to dois to power off computer, open the computer box, and then unplug thepower plug of the computer to make sure that it is no electricity atall. Then locate the white silver button battery on the motherboard.Remove the battery carefully. Perhaps 30 seconds later, put back thebattery.
After put back the computer box then power on, thesystem will prompt “CMOS Checksum Error-Defaults Loaded”. That meansCMOS errors detected during inspections, had been included in thesystem default, BIOS password cracking success!
On somemotherboards, the battery is soldered to the motherboard, making itdifficult to remove. If this is the case, you have another alternative.Somewhere on the motherboard you should find a jumper that will clearthe BIOS password. If you have the motherboard documentation, you willknow where that jumper is. If not, the jumper may be labeled on themotherboard. If you are not fortunate enough for either of these to bethe case, you may be able to guess which jumper is the correct jumper. This jumper is usually standing alone near the battery. If you cannotlocate this jumper, you might short both of the points where thebattery connects to the motherboard.
==② : Backdoor BIOS Password==
Eachmotherboard manufacturer has set a backdoor password in order tofacilitate the provision of technical support. The backdoor password isa BIOS password that works, no matter what the user sets the BIOSpassword to. These passwords are typically used for testing andmaintenance. Manufacturers typically change the backdoor BIOS passwordsfrom time to time.
AMI Backdoor BIOS Passwords
Reported AMIbackdoor BIOS passwords include A.M.I., AAAMMMIII, AMI?SW , AMI_SW,BIOS, CONDO, HEWITT RAND, LKWPETER, MI, and PASSWORD.
Award Backdoor BIOS Passwords
Onereported Award backdoor BIOS password is eight spaces. Other reportedAward backdoor BIOS passwords include 01322222, 589589, 589721, 595595,598598 , ALFAROME, ALLY, ALLy, aLLY, aLLy, aPAf, award, AWARD PW, AWARDSW, AWARD?SW, AWARD_PW, AWARD_SW, AWKWARD, awkward, BIOSTAR, CONCAT,CONDO, Condo, condo, d8on, djonet, HLT, J256, J262, j262, j322, j332,J64, KDD, LKWPETER, Lkwpeter, PINT, pint, SER, SKY_FOX, SYXZ, syxz,TTPTHA, ZAAAADA, ZAAADA, ZBAAACA, and ZJAAADC.

Remember that what you see listed may not be the actual backdoor BIOS password, this BIOS password may simply have the same checksum as the realbackdoor BIOS password. For Award BIOS, this checksum is stored atF000:EC60.
==③: Software Crack==
There are a lotsoftwares to test systems or start up password, but they need to run onWindows. So it is only used to reset BIOS setting password.
!BIOS will recover the BIOS password for most common BIOS versions, including IBM, American Megatrends Inc, Award and Phoenix.
CmosPwd will recover the BIOS password for the following BIOS versions:
•ACER/IBM BIOS
•AMI BIOS
•AMI WinBIOS 2.5
•Award 4.5x/4.6x/6.0
•Compaq (1992)
•Compaq (New version)

•Phoenix 4 release 6 (User)
•Gateway Solo - Phoenix 4.0 release 6
•Toshiba
•Zenith AMI
Ifall else fails, you might be going to lose some money for technician. But they will use these same methods, try hard by yourself.

P4M2PROP motherboard have power but not working???

The first step would be to clear the CMOS ram manually. To do this, you need physical access to the mother board.

- Make sure the power is off but do not unplug from power.
nyctobello.jpg
- Locate Clear CMOS (JBAT) Jumper. From above, lower right hand corner.
- Simply remove the jumper and put it back again.
- Power up.
- If problem persists:

- May be faulty ram
- If you have a video card installed, uninstall it and connect monitor to VGA port of motherboard. It could be a faulty video card.
- CPU could be over heating, clean with compressed air, check fans and CPU grease.

Hope this helps...

Clearing cmos password or cmos clear jumpoer location.... where can i find?

This information is intended for experienced users. It is not intended for basic users, hackers, or computer thieves. Please do not try any of following procedures if you are not familiar with computer hardware. I'll not be responsible for the use or misuse of this information, including personal injury, loss of data or hardware damage. So use it at your own risk.

A. By Using Software:
I have found that using Dogber1's Dell Password generator is a great solution to this problem. It is free and takes approximately 10 seconds to download from his site.

B. By Using the Motherboard Jumper:
In most motherboards CMOS battery is soldered, which makes it difficult to remove the battery. In this case we use another method.
Almost all motherboards contain a jumper that can clear all CMOS settings along with the BIOS password. The location of this jumper varies depending upon the motherboard brand. You should read your motherboard manual to check its location. If you don't have the manual then look for the jumpers near the CMOS battery. Most of the manufacturer label the jumper as CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc.
When you find the jumper, look carefully. There will be 3 pins and the jumper will be joining the center pin to either left or right pin. What you need to do, is remove the jumper and join the center pin to the opposite pin. e.g. if the jumper joins center pin to left pin, then remove it and join center pin to right pin. Now wait for a few seconds and then again remove the jumper and join the center pin to left pin.
Make sure to turn the PC off before opening the cabinet and resetting the jumper.

Good luck

Changed cpu multiplier from 17 to 19 now have blank screen on foxconn a88gmx, cant reset as cannot access bios

Try clearing the CMOS --- the down side is your lose all your setting --- the up side is you should be
able to access your BIOS

Clear CMOS Jumper: CLR_CMOS1 ( Located near CMOS battery )
The motherboard uses CMOS RAM to store the basic hardware information (such as BIOS data,
date, time information, hardware password...etc.). Clear CMOS data is the fast way to go back to
factory default when the BIOS settings were mistakenly modified.
The steps to clear CMOS data are :
1. Turn off the computer, unplug the power cord from the power outlet.
2. Remove jumper cap from pins 2-3, put it onto pins 1-2 to short them.
This will clear CMOS data.
3. Return the setting to its original with pins 2-3 closed.
4. Plug in the power cord to your computer and turn it on.
5. Go to BIOS Setup to configure new system as described in next chapter.
