Question about Kenwood KDC-X590 CD Player
After a while(6 months) the display goes out the unit continues to function but there is nothing on the screen.
A little burned spot is a vacuum supporter, not a burned transistor. If it becomes white - vacuum is broken and tube definitely must be replaced. But if it black - tube is ok. The problem is electron emission lost by heated cathode. Find R73,R74 and R75 on switching unit board, and solder resistor 22 Ohm 1/2W in parallel. Apply ground to TP15 and +5V to TP50. Cathode wires must light with very-very low red color. If not - reduce applied resistor. Be careful, you can burn a cathode if resistor would be too small.

Hi everyone, remember this unit has 2 YEAR warranty unlike the others, so you can easily go to the nearest kenwood service center and get it fixed or replaced under warranty.

Has anyone found a repair for this? My screen just died this morning...I've had it in my car for about 30K miles and I REALLY like the head unit...it's still working fine, but I can't even begin to try to mess with the EQ, or figure out what MP3 I'm going for without the screen :(

I hear the problem and all the different solutions but, has any of these worked for anyone yet?

For the record... I took mine apart and popped out the board. On the lower left hand corner of the display is a little circular burn. I'm guessing that is the cause of my troubles.

I took my faceplate apart and noticed there is a little burned spot on the bottom left hand side of the digital display. My assumption is that some sort of transistor burned out. I don't see how that part could be replaced unless you replace the entire digital display unit. Kenwood should have known better and created a display that would not fizzle out. I love this deck and hate to replace it. I won't buy a Kenwood because their new decks seem to have the same type of digital display.

I have the same issue. After searching the manual, illustrations, and parts list, I think I have tracked down what I believe is the replacement part. The part # is 3-BT-235INK and is called a fluorescent indicator tube. I ordered it from www.kenwoodparts.com for 30.99 + 6.50 S/H. The faceplace has screws to allow me to open it to replace the part. If you or someone you know is at all mechanically inclined, you should be able to do this fix. I will reply again after I get the part and install it.

It's the actual display component itself on the face. mine burned out on the lower left corner. looks like a blown light bulb. crap!
