Question about Xerox Phaser 6180N Laser Printer
My phaser 6180 color printer toner is not adhering to paper and I just noticed that there are horizontal lines on the paper as well.
There are three causes of toner not sticking (fusing) to the paper.
1. Poor quality remanufactured or 'compatible' toner cartridges, that don't have the correct toner in them. Laser printer toner, especially for colour laser printers , needs to be formulated for THAT particular printer 'engine'. All toner is NOT the same. A GOOD quality remanufactured cartridge that DOES have the right toner will be fine.
2. Faulty fuser. Particularly if the fusing is patchy. This is usually the fuser heat lamp that is starting to fail (will often blacken in patches on the lamp surface - not visible as this is inside the fuser pressure roller. A replacement fuser will fix this.
3. Too thick, or damp media If you are printing on card, and have not 'told' the printer that it is using something thicker than 80 gsm paper, the heat from the fuser just doesn't get through the media and heat the toner enough to fuse it. Setting the media type (in the printer driver) correctly will sort this out. If your media is damp, the moisture content will prevent the toner fusing. Ensure the paper is NOT damp or excessively cold.

Most likely replacing the cyan print cartridge will clear this right up. The part number is 113R00719 for the standard capacity. Iteminc.com has this in stock and ships same day for $99. Good luck, and thanks for using fixya!

When you adjust the length guides there are 3 little white switch actuators that eith do or do not actuate three little white switches inside the machine which tell the machine the position of the length guide.
For 11"paper only the bottom one should be sticking out to actuate the bottom switch inside the machine.
Make sure they are intact and that no torn off piece of paper is holding a switch actuate.
If you rmove the tray with a flashlight you can see the three switches inside the machine on the right about 2/3rds of the way back.
They should move freely but they do not go click when you press on them
I don't see anything that monitors the width of the paper in the tray..
If all that works, time to call service.
