Dvd player reads no disk..even though the disk is in player, i want to watch the dvd i rented now. help

Some rented discs won't play becauses of scratches and dirt, if other DVD 'S work it is not your player, but if all won't play try a DVD cleaning kit and follow instructions.

The dvd player will play a movie for about 10 minutes then it gets freezes and does not play anymore. It's brand new. had it about 2 months.

I found out this tv/dvd will not play certain movies that are rented from netflix is that their dvd have a restricted thing, and this tv will not read the movies that are on certain disks. It plays movies good that I rented here in town. So theres nothing really wrong with the player itself. I did some reading and this is what I assummed.

Mine is Sony DVD player..I insert a disc and it says "CAN NOT PLAY THE DISC" and then the player shuts off. The other DVD works fine.

HI,
Check the manuel some DVD Players do not support DVD RW or -R +R formats. When Ifirst put my burned movie in I got the message that the player cant play that format Just ignore that and advance the Video to where the movie is starting then all my burned movies played fine. My Pioneer BD 51 FD does support DVD RW +R -R formats so be sure that you can play burned DVD RW +R -R on your Sony player. I was in Wal Mart the other day and they had some DVD players on sale but on the box it said that they do not play DVD RW +R or -R Burned DVD's so be careful if you do buy another one I went to best buy and found mine. Check first it will save a lot of hassle later. This software works great but it may not play in your DVD Sony Player there is a list here of compatible DVD Players

OR

your disc is scratched or a pirated one

thank you for using fixya, rate my answer,

Every time i put a movie to play,it tells me that it does'nt recognize the disk.

Are you using a rented movie (ORIGINAL DISC) or a recorded disc (surface is purple like) - Some DVD Players especially older ones are picky about media and might not read certain media types or brands properly or support them at all. If your player is rejecting every disc even original ones, then you might have dirty lens or a bad player.
Do not attempt to open and repair yourself you can be exposed to harmful laser - I also do not recommend lens cleaners either unless absolutely necessary.

If you are trying to play blue ray on this unit you are out of luck no amount of firmware will make it play something it is not capable of doing.

Dvd movies intermitently slows to near stop playing irratically

Have you examined the DVD's to see if they are abused and/or damaged by those who rented them? If there is no damage (unlikely for rental DVD's) what does the 'problem' look like?

If it is a blue ray, you need a blue ray dvd player.
