SOURCE: how to thread the bobbin on a singer simple sewing machine

Drop-in bobbin: Note: thread must change direction when entering bobbin shuttle notch. Usually bobbin will turn counter-clockwise when threaded properly.

1. hold bobbin so that the tail of thread is facing to left.
2. drop bobbin into bobbin shuttle.
3. pull thread toward you.
4. guide thread into notch and pull to left so that slot engages thread.
5. pull thread diagonally across shuttle toward back of machine.
6. draw bobbin thread up through needle plate with threaded needle.

SOURCE: Singer Sewing Machine model 9224. Bobbin thread

If you turn the handwheel, can you see a metal ring rotating around the outer edge of the bobbin case? If not rotating, broken gear or timing belt off.
If that ring is turning, remove the needle plate and bobbin case. As this ring now rotates, you will a finger on the ring that will pass behind the needle from right to left and it should catch the thread from the eye of the needle. If this finger, the "hook" passes above the eye, you have a timing problem.

Let me know.

Singer - 241-12, bobbin thread not stitching

I have a 241-12 Singer. New to me. It was running great. Then the bobbin thread ran out. Put in one prewound bobbin that came with it, even though the bobbin appeared different. The bobbin thread didn't feed and the machine jammed up. I finally wound the old bobbin and put it in. It will only feed about 6" of thread before the bobbin thread breaks. It becomes so tight I can't get it to feed. Both bobbins will not feed. However I don't believe it's the bobbin tension because thread will pull through fine when pulled manually (if it hasn't been in the machine yet). What am I doing wrong?

Singer Electronic Control Sewing Machine 3343C--- The tread on the bottom of the fabric bunches up when sewing . The top thread OK What is my proble?

Hi Cat,
This seems to be a common problem, but easy to fix. Check the bobbin, and see if the thread feeds out quickly when holding the thread and letting the bobbin case drop. You should see a small screw on the front of the bobbin case for adjustment. Screw that until the drop rate is slight. You may need to adjust a few times to get just the right rate of feed.
Hope this helps, Please rate and comment, Thank You
Joe

I lost my manual for singer model 4525 and am not sure I am threading it right do you have a diagram, also how do I adjust the tension?

found this for a 4526 - it could be very similar to your machine.

http://www.sewusa.com/Threading_Diagrams/Threading_Pages/Singer_Sewing_Machine_Threading/singer_4526_4528_4530_threading.htm

there is also good general machine help on www.sewing.about.com which gives generic threading help, trouble shooting etc.

Tension is usually controlled by a dial on the top thread, and a little screw on the bobbin case on the bottom thread. However, if you adjust either, just small increments is best to avoid making things worse. Top tension usually set to 5 or middle number and bottom tension shouldn't often need touching.

change needle
clean under needle plate where feed dogs are for lint
also clean in bobbin area for lint or loose threads
take the bobbin out & reinsert it

Does the singer model 3820 take a special bobbin? I cannot get it to feed the thread up to the needle.

It takes a singer or universal bobbin with a flat top - not one of the plastic ones that has a curve to the top.

How do you adjust the bobbin tension on a Singer 533....When I use mine..the top thread from the needle is fine but the underside thread is a mess, all tangles etc. Any ideas anyone???

With your slide plate open, you will see 2 screws on the bobbin case. You need to adjust the one on the inside (not the one that sits at the edge of the metal strip). Do so very slightly. If you can't seem to get it adjusted, take a look and make sure there isn't any thread or lint in between the two pieces of metal that the thread feeds through. This can cause a loose tension.
