Canon MP600 printer

I have just installed a new yellow ink tank but the printer will now not work. A message "cannot be recognised" comes up against the yellow icon. Any thoughts Thanks

Have the same message but ink is nearly full. After releasing tank and re fitting it works sometimes. Had one message which read defective carriage

I have the same problem but it's the wide black cartridge that "cannot be recognised". It worked fine for awhile, it still has plenty of ink left in it, and turning off and on does not solve the problem.

U041 Problem tells me I'm out of ink and to replace it - ink is full

Had same problem with blue cartridge. Seems to be very common. Canon should fix this contact problem by reimbursing users with the defect cartridges. The only thing which helps, is to replace the (half full cartridge)
with a new one. Did you know that Office depot pays for empty cartridges?

I am having this same problem with the ink tank cannot be recognized. Mine is also with yellow cartridge which is still half full. Neither taking the cartridge in and out or turning the printer off and on works. The printer is virtually useless because I cannot print anything because of this error message.

I have the same problem with the blue cartridge. I have tried turning it on and off.....sometimes it works, i.e. printa a page or two, but then when try to print a new document it comes up with same error msg. Seems to be a common problem....does Canon acknowledge this?

same problem, magenta cart is not accepted although if one of the other carts is moved into the slot it will recognise that.

  • danielle85 Dec 11, 2008

Installed new cartridges a while back. then it came up saying ink is low on the yellow cartridges so i bought new cartridges in antipaction of it running out. Finally said it was empty last night. gone to change cartridge this morning an the yellow is still full but it tells me it is empty. Phoned canon and they said they will phone back - lets see if they do!!

  • d-kservais Dec 14, 2008

I've tried all of the above, short of replacing the cartridge, which I'm going to try today - I NEED to print! Popping the cartridge out and shaking it worked for a while, doing the on/off worked for a while, but now nothing! I'd even opt for printing in B/W, but I see how to bypass the error message. This is only happening with the yellow.

Original Canon ink tanks have a small ID chip installed ,which may not allow the printer to recognise the tank as genuine, if there is the slightest smear on the contacts, such has a finger print.
We believe that the major problem is simply faulty chips, and depending on the comsumer laws in your country, and more importantly the consumers will to make use of their basic rights to expect a manufacturer should replace goods that are not of "Merchantable quality".

In other words that the product should provide the good quality ink, and the ability to print it onto paper, with quality relative to a companies promise in their advertising. Large international companies sell millions of ink tanks, and will continue to ignore consumers that they have sold a useless product to knowing that a large percentage will buy at least another set in the hope that they will get as good result, or will find it to hard to over come obstacles that the vendor will raise to put you off. The recycling industry can provide answers to many of these problem. Chips can be reset with tools developed for this purpose.
If you buy good quality conpatibles, or get refills from reputable refillers, you will have less failures, and will not be ignored if you have problem.

Seems to be a problem only with the yellow cartridge.  I'm having the exact same problem.  Turing off and on the printer does nothing, nor cleaning the contacts.  There really is no solution except to go out and buy another "expensive" yellow cartridge.  The contacts are poorly made.

Try replacing another color for the yellow and see if it takes. iT SHOULD NOT take another color in the yellow slot. If you turn printer off & on and it solves the problem for awhile, then u could be having heat problems the is transferred to the metel strips on the print head that is transferred to printer color cartrigde.

The U043 error code indicates that an ink tank is not installed. One or more ink tank icons on the LCD should also be lit up. The lit up icon indicates the applicable ink tank. Verify these tanks are indeed fully seated in the print head and that they are lit up red.

You can also press the OK button to clear this message and continue.

Canon pixma MP600 wont recognize ink tank. Seldom used

I have the same printer and the only ink cartridges I use are Canons own.
I've tried these cheaper replacement ones and zip nothing will not recognise them.
It is false economy as now I have a full bank of copy ink cartridges that charity will not even accept.
Hope this helps!

Compatibility of Ink cartidge.

The MP600 does not use the 40 or 41 cartridges, it uses individual color (and black) ink tanks. But other models (MP190, MP460, MP470, etc) do use these cartridges. The error message you are receiving indicates that the printer does not recognize the cartridge you installed as a valid black ink cartridge. This can mean that either the cartridge is faulty, or that the printer has a problem.
I would suggest trying another new cartridge, and if you still get the same error, to contact Canon for support options if the unit is still in warranty.

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I had the same problem. My mp630 is also only 4 months old. I replaced all colour ink cartrdiges(inc black), but was only able to release the function for detecting the ink levels for magenta and cyan. Yellow and black then started giving error message U043, with them alternating between working, but never working at the same time. Getting them all clicked in with the lights glowing red does not solve the problem, as once the printer cover is closed, the same error message turns up. The only thing that worked for me is moving the chip slightly out of alignment, by pushing the sliding chip holder, and I only had to do this twice before they all started working and the printer was unlocked.

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

Same problem - two solutions I found helped me work out mine. One said contacts needed to be cleaned and it worked to use a Q-tip and alcohol or just click it in position several times until it recognizes the cartridge - this may work. Another said that they got it to work by installing a brand new cartridge - cool, but I have one full of ink it won't recognize. So I pulled the little circuit board off a used cartridge (like you need to do with some refills) and put it on the cartridge that it wouldn't recogrnize - works great. Still haven't figured out how to get it to acknowledge ink levels though. Canon really should be more consumer friendly since these problems seem to be intended to compel the use of proprietary cartridges.
