How do i install handlebar mounted kill switch in a chinese 72cc atc

replace the key switch as it is faulty
as to fitting a kill switch find a switch that the mount opens up so that the switch can be mounted without the necessity to remove anything off the handle bars take a wire from the key switch and run it to the kill switch and from the other terminal reconnect it to where it came from. This means that the power from the ignition switch now goes to the kill switch then back to where it was originally connected after the igition switch.

How to service a lid switch

The lid switch on a washer often serves as a safety switch. If the switch is not working, or if the switch opening in the lid is clogged with detergent, the machine will not run. To check and repair the lid switch:

- Unplug the machine. Clean out the lid switch port with a wood manicure stick or chopstick. Clean off any detergent buildup around the rim of the lid. Sometimes there's enough detergent encrusted on the metal to prevent the lid from closing tightly and keep the washer from operating.
- If cleaning doesn't help, remove the top of the cabinet to get at the switch. With the switch exposed, check the screws for looseness. Loose screws can cause the switch to move when the lid is closed or as the machine goes through its cycles. Check the terminals of the switch to make sure they're tight. Tighten the mounting screws after the switch is in alignment. -Test the switch with a VOM set to the RX1 scale. Disconnect the power leads to the switch terminals and clip one probe of the VOM to each terminal. Close the lid of the washer. If the meter reads zero, the switch is working. If not, the switch is faulty and should be replaced. - If necessary, replace the lid switch with a new one of the same type. Connect the new switch in exactly the same way the old one was connected.
- If the switch still doesn't work, it is probably misaligned. Realign the switch by repositioning the screws holding it in place, testing the switch as you go until it works properly.

With the switch in the up position(toward input screws on back) and placing the ohm meter probes; one on the upper left, one on the lower right, continuity is read. Reversing (one lead on upper right, one...

I answer questions for free.
I understand electrical devices.
It is unclear how many screws are on the switch you are testing.

If your switch does not show ohms when the switch is in one position, then it sounds like the switch is bad. But you can read information below for more information about your testing.
You can also add a comment and continue the discussion.

Let me provide more information about switches because you seem interested in electricity and the information may help us understand where the other is coming from in case you add a comment needing more help:
2 screws on switch: (excluding ground screw)
An ordinary single-pole switch usually has 2 brass colored screws.
These screws only read ohms or continuity when switch is in one position.
When the switch is in the other position, there are no ohms that pass through the switch.

3 screws on switch: (excluding ground)
A 3-way switch has 3 screws. There are 2 brass-colored screws and one dark-colored screw.
Put ohm tester on dark screw and continuity will show between the dark screw and one of the brass screws.
Flip the switch and ohms will test between dark colored screw and the other brass screw.

4 screws on switch. (excluding ground)
There are 2 screws on each side of switch.
This type of switch might be a special purpose double-pole switch.
Or it might be the more common 4-way switch.
Add a comment if you have a switch with 4 screws.

Below is a typical 3-way switch application showing the dark-colored screws:

Here is a typical 4-way switch circuit:
Notice the switch in middle has 4 screws:

Replaced the bulbs and checked fuse but the brakelights fail to work. Could it be a switch.

Yes, it could be the switch behind your brake pedal.

  1. Remove the driver's side instrument panel trim panel/sound insulator.
  2. Detach the switch electrical connector.
  3. Remove the switch from the retainer by grasping it, turning the switch 90° counterclockwise, and pulling it toward the rear of the car.

082d67c.gif
The brake light switch (3) is mounted on the brake pedal support (1) and secured with a retainer (2)

To install:
  1. Insert the brake light switch into the retainer until the switch body seats on the retainer.
  2. Pull the brake pedal upward against the internal pedal stop.
  3. Turn the switch 90° clockwise in order to lock it into position.

NOTE Proper switch adjustment is achieved when no clicks are heard as the pedal is pulled upward and when the brake lights do not stay on without brake application.

  1. Attach the switch electrical connector and test the switch for proper adjustment.
  2. Adjust the brake light switch, as follows:
    1. Detach the switch electrical connector.
    2. Remove the switch from the retainer by turning it counterclockwise 45°, and pulling it toward the rear of the car.
    3. Insert the switch into the retainer until the switch bottoms out against the brake pedal and the switch actuator button is fully depressed.
    4. Snap the switch into the retainer by turning it clockwise 45° until a click is heard.
  3. Attach the switch electrical connector.
  4. Install the hush panel/sound insulator.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.

1998 Mercury Villager Break light switch

go here for help. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/villagerquest/

Brake light circuit goes through turn signal switch. Do turn signals work ok? Does high mount stop lamp do this too? If you disconnect brake switch, do the lights go off? Do you have trailer tow? Maybe that wire is an issue. I would check brake switch first again. Maybe out of position.

I think you need to adjust the switch.

Installation
  1. Install the BPP switch.
  1. Adjust the BPP switch. Refer to the procedure in this section.
  1. Tighten the BPP switch locknut to 12-15 Nm (9-11 lb-ft).
  1. Connect the BPP switch electrical connector.
  1. Connect the battery ground cable.
Section 17-01: Lighting, Exterior 1998 Villager Workshop Manual
ADJUSTMENTS Brake Pedal Position (BPP) Switch
  1. Measure the distance between the brake pedal stopper and the threaded end of the brake pedal position (BPP) switch. The BPP switch height (A) should be 0.3-1.0mm (0.012-0.039 inch).

ce51ecc.gif

  1. If the BPP switch height is not within specification, loosen the BPP switch locknut.
  1. Adjust the BPP switch until the height is within specifications.
  1. Tighten the BPP switch locknut to 12-15 Nm (9-11 lb-ft).
STOPLAMPS Condition Possible Source Action
  • Stoplamps/Rear Hi-Mount Lamp Inoperative
  • Fuse.
  • Circuit.
  • Brake pedal position (BPP) switch.
  • GO to Pinpoint Test Step K1 .
  • One or More Stoplamps Inoperative
  • Stoplamp bulb(s).
  • Circuit.
  • GO to Pinpoint Test Step L1 .
  • Stoplamps/Rear Hi-Mount Lamp On Continuously
  • BPP switch.
  • REPLACE the BPP switch.
