Question about Canon PowerShot A75 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Card error not error of card?

Canon PowerShot A75: is informing me with 3 different memory cards that it is getting card error or corrupt data. Cannot successfully take pictures with any of them when I manually try to do so, but - a feature on Photo Impression, Version 5 by Arc Soft will snap a picture with a click of the mouse when the camera is hooked up. These pictures are being saved accurately & without error on the memory card. Baffled & frustrated, don't know what to do. Could I have something set up wrong in the camera to make it not work right for 'still pictures'??? Please advise.

How much for memory card canonpowershot a75

That depends on the size and speed of the card(s) you choose. The A75 uses CompactFlash Type 1 cards. You don't really need a fast card.

Memory card error with new memory card

Hi there, welcome to FixYa.

Let's work on the camera first.
1) Turn the camera off and remove the battery and the card.
2) Put the battery back in without the card and turn it on.
3) Turn the camera off and insert the CF card.
4) Turn the camera back on again.
See if that takes the message away.

If it doesn't leave me a comment and we go to step 2.
If it does, thanks for coming to FixYa.

Black LCD Screen on the Canon PowerShot A75

There is a service notice for this CCD issue and Canon is repairing this model for free. Give Canon tech support a call and they will send out a shipping label and within 2-3 weeks, you should have a working camera!

Hope this helps!

Memory card error

Dear jk_cibergirl:

It is likely that some type of corruption has happened to your memory card. Try reformatting the card in your camera to correct any problems. If that works then you should be fine to take more pictures from this point. If not, you may need to get another memory card. Check your memory card manufacturer for warranty information.

Just a few tips to help you avoid this problem in the future:

1. Even though your computer can format a memory card, do
not ever do so from your PC. Your computer lays down a
different type of file table than your camera, which can lead
to data corruption.

2. Always format the memory card in the camera it will be
used in after each downloading session AND even when
using a brand new card right out of the box for the first time.

3. Do not share cards among cameras - even if they use the
same type of card - even if they are the same camera model!
Consider your memory card to be camera specific.

4. Do not place your camera close to strong magnetic fields
(e.g on top of a television)

5. Lastly, even though your camera has a single image erase
button, do not do what some do and fill your card up and then
go into the playback mode and erase a few images just to
take a few more new images. This almost certainly will lead
to data corruption on your card. Download your images and
reformat the card to take additional shots.

If you need to recover any lost images from that memory card, you can give it a try by simply downloading free software from the internet (such as Zero Assumption software available at, connecting your memory card to your computer via a card reader, and running the program on the card reader volume.

Hope this helps.

Memory card not reading in canon a75

So as not to spoil your vacation, go buy yourself a new compact flash card locally. They should sell them anywhere electronics are sold, including WalMart, etc. See if you can get this new card to work in your camera. If so, then you can work on trying to get your current CF to work, by trying to format it in the camera. If you can't get a new CF to work in the camera, then you likely damaged either the pins in the CF socket in the camera, or some switch that is pushed when the card is inserted (to tell the camera there is a card in it). It is unlikely you will be able to have this fixed during your vacation, unfortunately.
