I have this router and have just enabled the NAT settings from Strict to Open:-

1. Log into router's IP address (192.168.1.1) and enter password. Select "Advanced Setup".

2. Click on Advanced on left hand menu and select UPnP

3. Check all three boxes in window and click on Apply

4. Close router configuration window and run XBox test again. Worked for me!

This is what worked for me: My DI-524 router (firmware version 5.00) always said my NAT was "Moderate". I use DHCP and have UPnP turned on. Rebooting the router made no difference. On a whim I turned off the "Discard PING from WAN side" option in the router (Tools tab, Misc. button) and re-tested. Woohoo! It said my NAT is OPEN! Oddly, I turned "Discard PING from WAN side" back ON and my XBox360 still says my NAT is OPEN. Weird. Maybe just changing it and then changing it back somehow reset something in the firmware. I don't understand it but it worked for me, so it's worth a try!

If you still experience issues with NAT setting, try opening these ports in your router (if You want extra security make sure to select a fixed IP for the Xbox 360 and restrict these setting to that IP:

3074 TCP/UDP
8602 TCP/UDP
88 UDP

Hope this helps :-)

On the router is the UPnp option. Configure port forwarding for other ports, and DMZ as disabled. NAT should report as Open.

  • Anonymous Oct 08, 2007

General options for getting your NAT Status to Open
There are four ways to overcome a Strict/Moderate NAT setting when using a router. I have listed them in the order of preference:
If you have an Xbox Live Certified router, use the certified firmware for your router

Use UPnP. If your router supports this. Turn it on. The router will work out the ports it needs to open for Xbox live. If your router does not have this feature, check the manufacturers website for the latest firmware. (also make sure portforwarding and/or DMZ is turned off as they interfere with UPnP)
Port forwarding (look up your router here then follow the instructions for Xbox Live 360)
    Use a DMZ (De-militarized Zone)
The DMZ (De-militarized Zone) is area that sits outside of your routers firewall. Don't worry though your not at risk with your Xbox

3. look for default gateway. this number is your ip address. You will also want to note what number is at the end of the IPv4 address. you will need this later.
4. open your internet and type in your ip address
5. a box will pop up for username and password. generally, the default is username: admin password: password
6. now you get to your router's settings page. this varies from company to company. i know netgear and linksys. if you dont have one of these you may have to google your company's router to learn how to port forward.
7. On netgear, scroll down on the left side until you see port forwarding/triggering and click on it. On linksys click on the applications and gaming tab at the top
8. Now you must enter the ports you need forwarded. either click add custom service for netgear or just type it in on linksys.
9. you need a different name for each port. the three you need are:
3074 TCP/UDP
8602 TCP/UDP
88 UDP
10. under the ip address is where you put the IPv4 address you noted earlier. refer to steps 1-3 if you dont have it.
11. click save and youre done

Now you will have an open NAT type when playing on Xbox. I dont know about you guys but my IPv4 address changes sometimes so if youre NAT type goes back to strict then you just need to look up the IPv4 address again and change it in your settings tab.

I have verizon and it work for me. Click "start", go to "control panel", click "network connections", then click "local area connection", click "support" tab, get the "default gateway" numbers and put it in your address bar in internet explorer and click go. You get a verizon page click "advanced setup." then you have to type in a username and password for me it was admin for username and password for password it should work then go to UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) click it. then click "on" and apply and it should work. again i have verizon and don't know if it works for all isp.

To check UPnP and Port Forwarding you need to:

Log onto router..web address 192.168.1.1 and the default password is password.

Scroll down the list on the left side of screen. UPnP is near the bottem of the list. Click on it and check it's settings.

Port Forwarding/Port Triggering is several options above UPnP. Port Forwarding works for one xbox on the network. Ports to open are mentioned in solution #5.

For over a year i have been running 2 xboxes and 2 computers on my wnr834b with the first version of firmware.

I have updated to the most current firmware.

UPnP turned on both show up as moderate. With one xbox on it's open.

Port Forwarding one xbox is always open and second is strict.

Port Triggering whichever connects to Live is open and the other is strict.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

You are trying to open the NAT on the router for X-box.
For this you will need to reduce the MTU settings on the router to 1365.
You will also need to trigger some ports on the router.
For this you will need to open the router set up page.
Router set up page is the page where you can change the settings of the router
Click Here to know more about router and network

NAT rating can be remedied by either turning on UPnP on your router, DMZ or portforwarding. This site has some good guides on how to improve your NAT rating when connected wirelessly to xbox live:

I think you can enable UPnP on the router.
Open the ports for Xbox or other gaming station.
Change the MTU size.
Disable the firewalls on the router.
Try webpage on Changing NAT to open

Try opening these ports in your router gui (select a fixed IP for the Xbox 360 remember it should be in the range of the router IP and restrict these setting to that IP:
3074 TCP/UDP
8602 TCP/UDP
88 UDP

Ok i put in my ip adress in the web browser and its says can not be found what do i do?

A

Wow that was difficult for me, but it worked. If you examine your router you will find the ip address and ID with password. If you login to your IP address it will allow you to change the settings. Click on the tab "port forwarding" and then at the bottom of the page it give you an option to edit. Click on the tab and then select from the drop down menu either UDP or TCP and fill the rest in with: UDP 88, UDP 3074 and TCP 3074. I personally didn't know the IP address for xbox so I just made the last number up and it worked.
Good Luck.

I sense the fact that not many people know how to get to get the IP address for thier individual router. To do this, go to the command prompt screen. When in here, typer in ipconfig then press enter. Remember the numbers that is ways the IP address is. then open your web browser. Type in those numbers into the address bar and it will ask for you to login. The default for my router was that the login was admin and the password is password. When you log in, follow the steps that the other people have given you. I need to fix this on my router as well but I can't find any settings at all within my menus to change the NAT settings.

Just turn the "gaming mode" on in Tools -> Misc. and it should work =D

I had the same prob. and what u have 2 do is go to ur router's ip address and enable your UPnP.

SOURCE: Change NAT to open

The ports should be opened only in the router not in the x.box, go to a working pc..

answer3.gif
To allow traffic from the internet to enter your local network, you will need to open up ports or the router will block the request.

Because our routers use NAT (Network Address Translation), you can only open a specific port or ports to one computer at a time. For example: If you have 2 web servers on your network, you cannot open port 80 to both computers. You will need to configure 1 of the web servers to use port 81. Now you can open port 80 to the first computer and then open port 81 to the other computer.

  • Step 1 Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your D-Link router (192.168.0.1). Enter username (admin) and your password (blank by default).

Step 2 Click on the Advanced tab at the top and then click Virtual Server on the left side.

Step 3 Check Enabled to activate entry.

Step 4 Enter a name for your virtual server entry.

Step 5 Next to Private IP, enter the IP address of the computer on your local network that you want to allow the incoming service to.
  • to check ip in your pc.. go to start menu click run.. type cmd and hit ok
  • in the black window enter ipconfig and hit enter, you will find the ip address

Step 6 Choose Protocol Type - either TCP, UDP, or both. If you are not sure, select both.

Step 7 Enter the port information next to Private Port and Public Port. The private and public ports are usually the same. The public port is the port seen from the WAN side, and the private port is the port being used by the application on the computer within your local network.

Step 8 Enter the Schedule information.

Step 9 Click Apply and then click Continue.
  • This would fix your problem..
