SOURCE: bostitch air compressor cap 60p-of

Mine had the same problem.
One of the reed valves in the head had broken off due to metal fatigue. Take off black plastic housing with 5 screws along the bottom and one bolt under the handle (the front only). Unscrew the four allen headed screws on top of the compressor. Unscrew the discharge line from the head. You'll need part # AB-A640050 which is the valve plate assy. and possibly AB-9007012 which is the intake valve located in the top of the piston (if damaged). About $18 including shipping from Bostitch.

A little suggestion as most compressors are build up similar in the same way if your Pressure relief valve (unloader valve) will start continues blow off until all pressure is lost , it has nothing to do with the pressostat switch in most case there is a problem with the checkvalve on the tank sometimes there are metal little oxidized parts coming out from the cilinder like the pressure hose connections Oxidized couplings or membrane you can open and inspect the spring and rubber valve iside the checkvalve clean it from corrosion and metal parts.

I have a newer Bostitch Air Compressor and it worked just fine a month ago and now we plug it in and the motor doesn't even turn on. And, no, it is not the outlet.

It is not uncommon for these compressor motors to "burn up". They are especially prone to overheating if a 14g or 16g extension cord is used to power it. Most of these do have a motor thermal protection button. Look carefully around the motor and motor mount frame. Of course, tracing the electric with a volt meter will confirm the location where the voltage terminates. The Auto/Off pressure switch is another possible fault. Taking the motor leads and powering them directly with 120v will confirm a motor problem. If this is an Oil Lubricated pump then double check by removing the back of the motor cover and turning the fan by hand. If unable to turn.. the pump may have froze up due to lack of lubrication. Usually a pipe wrench turning the exposed motor shaft will unlock the crankshaft and a high grade synthetic non-foaming motor oil in the crankcase will help keep it lubricated and it may contimue to work okay.

When the unit is on and building pressure, the safety valve goes off before it reaches the factory set 150psi pressure. I then lose most of the air and it starts over until the safety valve releases again...

The pressure switch (on / off switch) must be adjusted or has failed. A qualified Bostitch Technician can determine if the switch can be adjusted or must be replaced. Each model is different and without the model number I cannot give you a more precise answer.

Check the position of the switches and selectors. It sounds like you are in between settings. Also, put in a few drops of oil, and try your gun out on scrap wood, so oil doesn't come out on your good work.

Something is wrong with your "unloader" I should think. That is the device that removes the pressure from the cylinder so the machine does not have to start up against its full air pressure
There will be a narrow air pipe connecting the compressor to the switch assembly which bleeds off the air when the power is off. That hiss you get when you turn it off or it turns itself off.
I think you will find a leak there or possibly the non return valve that stops all the air escaping when the unloader valve is open has failed or got a foreign body stuck in its seating.

I am trying to fill a pillow for my above ground pool-can't figure out how to use my bostitch air compressor

Plug the compressor in, turn on the start switch, one gauge reads the tank pressure, the other gauge indicates the pressure in the air hose. The dial adjusts the pressure to the air hose.
