Question about Refrigerators
I have replaced this ice maker once before about 2 years ago. Just replaced it again because it failed to dump water and I assumed that the heating element was bad. It worked fine for about 2 weeks and then the same thing happened. After melting the ice I restarted the ice maker and it worked fine for about a day and then failed to dump the ice before dispensing water again causing it to freeze over. Could the problem be in the controls or sensors or should I replace the ice maker once again? Thanks
Monitor the cycle as it is filling water does it over fill or is there a seepage that continue to drip, it could be the water valve. Also do you hear the tray making noise as it tries to dump the ice "the harvest cycle" try to watch it to see if it is a mechanical gearing problem

Testimonial: "When the water is dispensed it fills and shuts off but I have noticed when it freezes over it appears that the water may have slowly leaked out because it mounds up in the dispenser cup. Are you speaking of the inlet water valve?"

SOURCE: Ice maker stopped working
are the "fingers" of the icemaker pointed toward you and slightly up? if not the icemaker is internally broken . is the red light to the right blinking twice and then a one second pause? if not the emmitter is broken. is the black hose coming from the ceiling blocked with ice ? if so the water vave is broken allowing water to seep in hose and freeze. hope this helps.

Your water line could be frozen in the door. You can disconnect the line under the unit before it goes into the door at the bottom hinge. Push the dispenser button and see if it comes out there. If it does leave the door open till it thaws. Covering the opening with a blanket will prevent the loss of cold in the freezer. . GE makes a heater that will prevent this from happening again. The part number for this heater is WR49X10173.
disconnect the line to the water dispenser at the water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in and try the dispenser. if you hear the valve work but water doesn't come out, the valve is bad. If you don't hear the valve, the dispenser switch is bad
Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. It’s on the back where the water supply comes in. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.
The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze blocking the fill tube.. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.
A strainer before the inlet valve can also get stopped up restricting flow.

Sounds like the source of your refrigerator freezer temperature problem is due to a faulty evaporator fan motor. This fan circulates the air from the freezer to the refrigerator and back to the freezer. When it fails, temps are warm at the top, cold at the bottom, so the ice melts, and the water tank inside the fridge, near the bottom, freezes. I looked up your model #, but it shows no results so i cannot give you a part number.
Also, its possible if you have a control board microcomputer, its bad as well. Some model GE refrigerators the fan burns out part of the computer, necessitating replacing both.
