I have the same problem with these timers! I thought that you could turn it on by pushing the "on" button, set how many hours you want it on for and that's it. It doesn't go on unless I unplug it and use my thumb to cover up the light sensor. Then I can set the hours and it will go off after say, 6 hours. I wish there was a solution that didn't involve unplugging it each day.
