Replacing the pinion gears in each wheel. Which way do the ratchet pawls go?


the pawls are positioned so that when the wheels rotate in a forward direction they lock up the pinion and drive the cutter blades ,
they release when the mower is pulled backwards
as for grease , if it had none then none is what is used
If it had grease then a water resistant bearing grease would be prefered

My kenmore top load washer will not spin. It fills, agitates, drains, then wont spin, it will not spin on the first spin cycle, it will on the second cycle. The model number is 110. 20832 990.


Try it in all the timer cycles. If it still does it then your transmission might need to be inspected. It is a simple design. Remove the agitator and then yank out the tranny. Remove the clutch and transmission cover. Inspect the main drive gear and the spin pawl beneath it.The main drive gear show in this 30 sec video is plastic (click on the link). This washer is easy as heck to repair. Don't be scared to repair this washer.
You could have a broken brake cam driver.themobilian_1662.jpg To inspect it you remove the agitator and drop the Tranny. Hay you already had the motor and pump off there so 4 more bolts (3 for the tranny and 1 for the agitator) Slide out the tranny and check the brake cam actuator. The little ear on it breaks off and won't release the brake. The part is held with a small easy to remove C clip. The next thing to do is remove the clutch and tranny cover. If that seems to be good remove the main drive gear and look for a smashed down spin pawl.themobilian_1664.jpgthemobilian_1665.jpgUnder that main drive gear is 3 spin bosses. over time the spin pawl takes a beating catching the boss as the neutral pack pauses from pump out to spin. themobilian_1666.jpgThis is the flip side of the main drive gear. Note the 3 notches. These are claeed bosses. Older model washers would spin and drain at the same time. Newer washers will allow the water to be pumped out first by keeping the spin pawl in check. A built-in pause allows the cent force to toss out the spin pawl where is can catch a boss and take off like Moody's goose in a tailwind. Nothing is hard about repairing this washer. Tming settings on gears how to put them together by the marks


First, make sure you've got the oil pump drive gear and the pinion on the pinion shaft of the crank and the nut properly torqued. Identify the cams. You should have a "1W", "2W", "3W" and a "4W". "1W" is the rear exhaust and "2W" is the rear intake. "3W" is front intake and "4W" is front exhaust. They go into the engine cases in order 1W in rear, next 2W over the pinion gear, 3W in front of the pinion gear, and 4W all the way to the front of the engine.

Install the "1W" cam. Then install the "3W" and the "4W" cam with the timing marks aligned. Now position the pinion gear with the timing mark straight up and lock the crank. Now, you must install the "2W" cam last making sure that the three timing marks are aligned with the pinion gear, the "1W" cam, and the "3W" cam.

The rear wheels will not turn in reverse at all. I


Rear wheel drives like this have pinion gears with rachet pawls that allow them to go backwards freely while locking when the transmission drives them.

You need to take off your rear wheels and carefully remove the pawls. They look like little squareish metal shaft keys with springs under them. You should notice that the keys or pawls are covered in what looks like grease.....which is actually worm metal from the pinion gear and oil mixed together to form this pastey greasey substance. Clean all that stuff off and lightly oil *( light oil...3 in 1 kind of oil) and reassemble.

You should hear the nice clean clicking of the rachet pawls as you roll backwards again!

What is the difference in a carrier pin and a park pin, and can I fix this without taking the transaxel out?


They are two totally different pins with different jobs. The carrier pin holds the differential pinion gears sometime called the spider gears in place by pinning their shaft to the differential case. The park pin secures the park pawl to the transaxle case. Neither pin can be changed without removing the transaxle and disassembling it to get to the pins. They are both in the bottom end of the transaxle case on most automatic transaxles.

I cant get the axle out of the front diff what is holding it in 2001 dodge durango


here is a diagram on how to get the front pinion seal out and it does mention how to get the axle loose. please do not forget to rate and comment about your experience with fixya today.
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2. Remove both half shafts.
  3. Mark propeller shaft and pinion flange for installation reference.
  4. Remove front propeller shaft.
  5. Rotate pinion gear three to four times, to verify pinion rotates smoothly.
  6. Record pinion flange rotating torque with an inch pound torque wrench for installation reference.
  7. Hold flange with Holder 6719 and four bolts and washers.
  8. Remove pinion nut.
  9. Remove flange with Remover C-452.
  10. Remove pinion seal with a pry tool.

To install:
  1. Apply a light coating of gear lubricant on the lip of pinion seal.
  2. Install seal with Installer C-3972-A and Handle C-4171.
  3. Install pinion flange onto the pinion with Installer C-3718 and holder.
  4. Hold pinion flange with Holder 6719A.
  5. Install new pinion nut and tighten nut until there is zero bearing end-play.

    CAUTION Do not exceed the minimum tightening torque when installing the companion flange at this point. Damage to the collapsible spacer or bearings may result.
  6. Tighten pinion nut to 271 Nm (200 ft. lbs.).

    CAUTION Never loosen pinion nut to decrease pinion bearing rotating torque and never exceed specified preload torque. If preload torque or rotating torque is exceeded a new collapsible spacer must be installed.
  7. Record pinion flange rotating torque, with a torque wrench. Rotating torque should be equal to the reading recorded during removal plus an additional 0.56 Nm (5 inch lbs.).
  8. If rotating torque is low, tighten pinion nut in 6.8 Nm (5 ft. lbs.) increments until rotating torque is achieved.

    CAUTION If maximum tightening torque is reached prior to reaching the required rotating torque, the collapsible spacer may have been damaged. Replace the collapsible spacer.
  9. Install propeller shaft with reference marks aligned.
  10. Install half shafts.

The seal on the front axle on the passenger side is leaking.is it hard to replace myself.

A part on my Scotts 16 '' Elite push mower broke


The number Jakeyjones gave is the customer service number. Call it and describe your problem.

As for the gear, I had the same issue. I called customer service and was told that there was a supplier material issue that caused some gears made last year to break more easily than they are supposed to. They are sending me 2 new pinion gears completely free of charge. These are the black plastic gears that engage against the orange wheels to make the blades spin. Make sure you don't lose the pawls (metal rectangular pins that go through the shaft to engage the pinion gears).
