Question about Canon EOS 550D Rebel T2i Digital Camera

Canon 550D freeze

I was taking three photos of a room, and upon taking the third picture, the red light at the bottom right of the camera stayed lit and all other camera functions stopped. The third photo was not written to the card. Turning the camera off and on has no effect on operation or the red light. Only way to reset is to remove and replace the battery. If I do, normal function returns until I try taking another picture; if I leave it alone after pressing the shutter button, the red light will stay on until the battery drains. Before sending it to the shop for repair, I wondered if anyone has any other ideas. Here's what I've tried so far: Recharging the battery Using a different lens Resetting to default Reformatting the SD card Buying a new SD card Shooting without a card in the SD slot Switching to manual focus My firmware is at the current 1.0.9 but I attempted to try and re-install it anyways to no avail; the camera just freezes again I have to remove the battery to power it down. I've seen other people with the exact same problem in other forums but I have yet to find a solution. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi: Here is what I did : Full charge the battery, and disable the mirror lock up. Disable under C.Fns in the Canon menu. It will flip the mirror up, and then wait for another full press of the shutter to open
shutter and drop the mirror. Also try to change several lens and " Low Level " format your memory card. Hope it help, thanks.

This is a common problem that these cameras came with, its a "glitch" in the motherboard that "turns on" a chip inside of it that pauses or freezes the normal function of the camera and it is triggered by any function/s that use that specific chip. Best thing you can do is to either get another board and install it yourself (if the camera is out of warranty) if not, don't mess with it and send it to Canon for a replacement (not a repair) of the motherboard.

SOURCE: Camera turns off when pressing shutter button

Sounds like a compatability problem. If available, try a genuine Canon battery new and fully charged.

What lens are you using? There might be issues with the contacts, therefore - using a dry clean, non abrasive cloth, try wiping the contacts on the lens - as well as the camera body. and see what that does.

Canon T2i freeze

This is a common "glitch" of the motherboard on that model or series camera from Canon. either send it back for the motherboard replacement (not a repair, a replacement) if still under warranty or simply get the board on line and do it yourself, which if you ask me, it is a pretty messy and difficult job. I rather build a PC from scratch!!

How can I extract the pictures from the camera memory of my Canon 550D?

You can remove the SD memory card from the Canon camers and insert the SD memory card into an USB memory card reader. Connect the USB memory card reader into the USB port of the working computer. The computer will see this card reader as an external memory device, click on this device and open the folder that contains the photos and you can then copy the photos to your computer.

I have Canon PowerShot A460 .When i capture a picture it look utterly bright both on Camera Screen and in PC. It flashes both in night mode and in day light or sun light. I 've reset all the functions...

I suspect that your shutter has stopped working. When you take the photos in good light, the shutter stays open causing total over exposure. I bet if you take a photo at night in a dimly lit place with flash, the photos would be fine as this does situation does not rely on the shutter.

I have heard that Digital cameras have a limited life time on how much you can take pictures. I have a Canon 550D. Is it true that there is a certain ammount on how much you can take pictures and then it...

Any mechanical device will eventually wear out, and a DSLR has many moving parts. The shutter and the mirror mechanism are prime examples, but in addition there are buttons and dials.

There's nothing in the camera keeping track of the date or number of pictures and then stopping operation when some limit is reached. In normal operation, the camera should be good for years and/or tens (or hundreds) of thousands of pictures.

I'm trying to upload the pictures on my Canon EOS Rebel T2i and the red light is blinking with nothing coming up on my computer... please help!

red blinking is memory card activity so should wait. try putting the camera into playback mode when connecting to a computer and computer should come up with a range of options. if all things fail go get yourself a memory card reader and take the card out of the camera and transfer your photos that way. its better on your cameras battery life and its quicker

Recently purchased a Canon 550D and when previewing an image on the camera, it appears fine. After switching it on and off, the image appears as a small version with "Can not display preview". ...

you maybe taking shots in raw which is fine but depending on what OS you have and computer hardware might mean your pc is struggling to open them. might want to check your photo resolution settings by pressing menu button and on the first list you should see the quality mode your using try taking shots in jpeg see if that helps.

if its already taking photos in jpeg then i highly recommend downloading picasa as it has an excellent photo viewer which you can enable as your default photo viewer. opens raw and jpeg photos no problem.

That's normal for all point and shoots when shooting babies. Either bring up the room lights, use the red-eye function with the flash, or use a photo editing program to remove the red-eye.
