SOURCE: Janitrol GUPS075-3 Furnace burners will not stay lit

The first thing I would do is make sure the flame sensor is clean, this is a metal rod immersed in the burner flame on the opposite side of the igniter. If too much oxidation builds up on it, it will not allow the burner to stay lit. To clean, just turn off furnace and remove flame sensor and clean with steel wool and then reinstall. If this does not solve the problem there may be a problem with the gas valve.

My Janitrol/goodman model gups100-4 will not light pilot strong new thermocouple

Hello Hal,

The picture show with your question seems to indicate a small furnace... The THERMOCOUPLE statement flies in the face of that...

There's no extra charge for a more detailed question... but the only reason to replace a thermocouple is if the pilot lights... but wont STAY LIT...

The "pilot" click... would be really nice to hear about.

Most of your modern "sparkers" or HOT-SURFACE igniters
will only try a few times to light the pilot... then they should lock up... to keep from accumulating a dangerous amount of gas... and to avoid a possible EXPLOSION.

SOMETHING YOU MUST keep in mind while you are working on your heater... GAS.

To reset your logic... you might be able to simply remove power.

(in my opinion) The most common failure is a fractured hot surface igniter... (but I've put a page full of ideas below)

If you are hearing an initial click... check for line voltage at the hot surface... if equipped for the pilot to light... (this is where I put my finger to see if it was warm... That was how I DISCOVERED it was FULL LINE VOLTAGE (not a recommended... test).

If you are not getting that INITIAL CLICK you have several areas to pursue... low voltage transformer is good (volt-meter)...
High temp sensors (etc.)...

Not expensive... but dangerous if not correctly serviced.

Might be time to hire a certified professional.

Hope I'm helping!

Automatic pilot light wont light on a honeywell furnace

Honeywell is a controls company and makes a variety of auto-pilots. If this is a no spark problem, does the lead from the igniter go to a big PC board or a module. If a module, check voltage to the spark module or thermostat voltage to the ignition module. If it comes from a large board, the board may be bad. I'll need more Info. if this does not cover it for you.

Onan 4000 generator has no spark

If there is no spark, the ignition module may be bad, or the wiring to it. Have the module ohmed out. Also the magnetic trigger assembley that is on the rotor that sweeps past the ignition module maybe broken. If they check ok, suspect the control board

Hello, I have the Goodman gas furnace that has an igniter. I will not light the flame. I was told that it was probably the board. So I went to a heat and air dealer and they sold me a new board, I...

Yes an igniter can go bad, unfortunately most furnace dealers will not return the board so you now have a spare. Pay attention to detail when changing the igniter out. Not knowing what style of igniter I can not give you tips on placement. The glowing type are very fragile they break when you look hard at them. The spark type it is important you have a clean direct spark at the pilot gas tube outlet and gapping the spark is critical. Ask your parts supplier for added tips they will know them all.

We've checked voltage to all connections, but not getting gas to igniter

If this is electronic ignition then the ignition control board is probably bad. The ignition module sends voltage to the gas valve to open the pilot valve whil the board sparks to light the pilot.

Pilot goes out afeter a few minutes

I bet you have a dirty pilot assmbley which caused the thermocouple to go bad. Remove the assembley clean it well (including the small oriface inside the assembley). then install a new thermocouple (probably 12-15 dollars) this should solve your problem.
