If one of the two thermal fuses are blown you will not get heat.  Thermal fuses blow (and are not resetable, they must be replaced) when the machine gets too hot.  Often this is caused by not enough air flow through the machine.  Check and make sure your exhaust vent is not clogged.  Clean it the best you can to get all the lint, dead mice, bird nests, etc. out.  Also make sure air is blowing out of the machine when it is turned on.  If not you have a blower problem.

SOURCE: Dryer Heating But Not Drying!!!

if its not heating at all the thermal is the most likely culprit and it was the little plastic piece you seen now if you have a meter set it to continuity and pull one of the wires off the thermal limiter and check it if it reads open its bad same with the heating element let me know now if the heater and thermal limiter are good pull the blower motor vent and check it for blockage

If you hear the blower ramp up when you start the dryer and it slowly ramps down or quits all together then you need to replace the blower.

SOURCE: Dryer takes a very long time to dry a load.

Some dryers have more than one heating elliment..

A way to check is -- take the exaust hose off.. Put a mirror so you can see into the hole & hopefully see the heating elliment(s).. When running they should glow like a stove burner..
If it is not gloing its not working & needs to be replaced..

I suspect that one may have went out..

I hope this helps !!
Please rate me good ;o)

I would check the connections at the terminal block (where the dryer cord is installed on the machine, there will be a small access panel). The dryer cord is installed by the delivery guys, and those connections are frequently left too loose. That loose connection will eventually fail.

GE Dryer PBSR353ET5WW.. I believe this unit is manufactured in Canada.. unit works, but does not heat up..

Check and clear the lint filters, and reset the circuit breaker. If your dryer still does not heat up, it is likely that the SWITCH controlling the heating element, OR the HEATING ELEMENT ITSELF is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Dryer is taking way longer to dry than normal

Does it feel warm to the touch? (you did not make mention of that) If not then it more than likely is not heating at all and there could be a number of reasons why it does not heat.
1. Open heating element
2. Open thermostat
3. Defectrive motor switch
4. Damaged wiring
5. Defective heat control switch
6. Defective timer.
7. One of the 2 power circuit breakers is partially tripped. (turn them off and back on again to reset them)
If it is warm to the touch then check around the lint filter for lint buildup. Also go outside and check the dryer vent flapper where it exits your home for obstructions. Aditionaally check the vent tubing itself for kinks or obstructions. You may have to remove the vent hose from the dryer to check the tubing.

My dryer takes much longer to dry loads now

Hi!

You need to check the following things to sort out the issue you are facing with--

Improper sorting •Separate heavy items from lightweight items (generally, to dry a well-sorted washer load is a well-sorted dryer load).
Large loads of heavy fabrics •Large, heavy fabrics contain more moisture and take (like beach towels) longer to dry. Separate large, heavy fabrics into smaller loads to speed drying time.
Controls improperly set •Match control settings to the load you are drying.
Lint filter is full •Clean lint filter before every load.
Improper or obstructed ducting •Check installation instructions for proper ducting/venting.
•Make sure ducting is clean, free of kinks and unobstructed.
•Check to see if outside wall damper operates easily.
•Check the Installation Instructions to make sure the dryer venting is correct.
Blown fuses or tripped •Replace fuses or reset circuit breakers. Since most dryers circuit breaker use 2 fuses/breakers, make sure both are operating.
Overloading/combining loads •Do not put more than one washer load in the dryer at a time.
Underloading •If you are drying only one or two items, add a few items to ensure proper tumbling.

Thanks for using FixYa and do rate the solution as Fixya if found helpful.

Thanks
Rylee

Clean Lint Filter Light Keeps Dryer from starting

Evidently the fuse blew for some reason.
Keep the dryer unplugged from power for one hour or so. If it still does start, you will have to take apart the dryer, check the fuse, check the thermal fuse, and test the wirings inside.
If you need to call arepairman use the number listed on the owner manual.

Bad heat in two year old GE DBXR463ED2WW electric dyer. Not as hot as used to be, takes longer to dry!

If you're experiencing a dryer that requires a longer time to dry, you may want to view this link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r630242-dryer_runs_but_not_heat

Pay particular attention to the first major paragraph. I know the link is for a no heat problem, however, if you have a dryer that is starved for air, the heating circuits will eventually fail. In most cases, a no heat, or longer dry time problem is directly associated to clogged ventilation, kinked dryer vent hoses, improperly installed vent ducting, a clogged blower fan assembly, or rodents. Yes...the last one isn't always fun, but I have found bird nests, mice nests and even snakes inside dryer vents, clogging the air flow. The symptims were all the same - a dryer that would not dry properly. Before you assume you have a component going bad, take a good look at the way your dyrer is installed and inspect it thoroughly for what might be a good cleaning. The outsiode dryer vent should be at least 12 inches off the ground and a louver is recommended to cover the end to prevent critters from getting inside. In addtion, the SHORTER nd STRAIGHTER the dryer exhaust vent is, the better. If you have an exhaust vent with excessive bends, or excessive run length, this can contribute to poor heating of the dryer. Especially exhaust vents that run thorugh an attic or under a crawl space. They typcially develop sags, which create choke points where lint can accumulate to the point where it clogs. I do not know what your situation may be, but provide this as some helpful guidance just in case. I hope you find this information helpful. If you inspect your dyer and still have problems, please post back and let me know.

as for a whirlpool lasting longer than a GE or Maytag, or whatever...they are, for the most part, all the same animal. Made by White Industries, once known as White Westinghouse, they produce nearly all of the major U.S. brand major appliances.Take your pick. Buy according to functions you really want, or need; the more gadgets there are, the more there is to go wrong.
