The first option is to restore to factory settings (as purchased when new. This option deletes your personal files, and just re-installs to factory. If using this, it is advisable to find any discs to programs installed since original factory state (as of time of purchase) It is advisable to use a program like Balearic Adviser to collect information, and sometimes your keys to any programs you instaled , and cannot find the software to reinstall.
The second option appears to be to wipe the hard drive so that your data is not available to others if you wanted to sell/scrap (recycle) your pc. The data is often saved on a seperate partition on your hard drieve

Sorry, I mistyped- the first option may delete files if in the same partition as the operating system- Usually on laptops, I find the data is saved on a second partition, sometimes the same partition that the recovery files are on, but sometimes on a third partition-

4. Select Recovery of Factory Default Software; click Next.

8. Restart the Toshiba laptop when there restoration process finishes running.Follow the prompts that appear on the screen to set up the laptop's date, timeand language settings.

How to factory restore my compaq presario f700 with no CD-ROM

It depends on which OS and software came with the computer and the state of the computer. (In all cases do not use the Microsoft System Restore. This will return a computer to the last known good state (revert to a prior version of the registry) but not to the factory installed state.)

To do a recovery without starting Windows:

Some Vista and Win7 machines came with HP Recovery Manager. Press F11 during bootup (BIOS prompt) then if the hard drive is accessible, the Recovery Manager will start. Follow the on-screen directions. (If you changed the OS from originally installed version or repartitioned the drive, this is not available.)

For all other OS and recovery software options, you will need an external (USB) optical drive. The preferred option is a R/W DVD drive to create the recovery media yourself. (HP will send you recovery discs for a fee if the machine is under warranty.)

If you can enter Windows, click Start

How do i rest my dell computer to factory settings

Resetting a consumer desktop/laptop to factory settings is fairly straight-forward. Follow the steps below to reinstall the OS and drivers.
Before beginning, here are the items you will need:
A. Computer/laptop B. Microsoft Windows OS CD/DVD
1. Power on your computer. 2. Insert the Windows OS CD/DVD in to the optical drive. 3. Restart the computer and boot from the CD/DVD when prompted. 4. Follow the installation prompts to complete the install. 5. Once completed, eject the CD/DVD and perform a Windows Update to update the system and any drivers you may be missing.

NO computer stated, make COmpaq,. no model vast sold all old.
NO OS stated.
wow, must we guess the moon ,stars and sky?

HP owns Compaq, and compaq is mostly a dead product now and for support (free) why mess with relic iron and OS>?
the newer PC's have hot key, F10 or F11 (changed at VISTA)
its job is reload the OS, called HP restore.
if those keys fail the hdd is not good..
HDD not Original
not HP, hdd, with HDD restore partition on board.
or HDD is bad.or someone corrupted these partitions.
or someone loaded, MS OS on it. do not load Microsoft disks her.
or was never there new, as was true on first compaq.(unstated by u)

if the hdd is bad it its bad, the bios test is just toy, we have vastly better tests disk, endless topic, can take all day to test any HDD.
the HP disk sets are not sold by HP but are 3rd party

you can read just like me, look your disk by self

https://restore.solutions/dv/laptop/compaq/

if the HDD is good, (may be not)
there are only 2 pathes.
HP install disks
or hope F10 works, I cant read you book to you ,and would but you never once disclosed the service tag data.

see this crude example that is a service tag.
it tells the helper what you own..
HP will ask for serial #, as that also tells options I cant ever guess.

How to clear and restore?

Your notebook should have came with a set of recovery CDs. If so you can recover your PC with the following steps:

  1. If the PC works, back up all data files that you want to save onto removable media, such as a DVD. Remove the backup DVD you have made.
  2. Press the Eject button on the disc drive, and wait for the tray to open. Insert Recovery DVD disc #1 and close the tray.
  3. Turn off the PC.
    • If the notebook works: Click Start on the taskbar, click Turn Off Computer , and then click Turn Off . Or
    • Press and hold the On button approximately 5 seconds until it turns off.
  4. Disconnect all devices.
  5. Press the On button.
  6. Recovery starts; wait for the onscreen instructions to display, and then follow those instructions.
    • For standard recovery, press R . Select Next to proceed with the System Recovery. Select Yes to start the recovery. Insert the remaining recovery discs when directed. Or
    • For full System Recovery, press F . Select Yes to perform a full System Recovery. Insert the remaining discs when directed.
  7. When the recovery program finishes, the drive tray ejects. Remove the disc.
  8. Click Restart.
  9. After it restarts, a series of startup screens appears. To proceed with the initial Microsoft Windows setup, complete the setup screens that appear.
  10. Complete the startup, finish the registration process, and wait until you see the desktop.
  11. When you have access to the Windows desktop, connect to the Internet as soon as possible to update the DEC software as follows:
  1. Update the system virus definitions .
  2. Get the latest critical system updates using Microsoft's Windows Update .
  3. Update the HP software on the system .

If you don't have any CDs you could try the F10 key to see if you have the contents of the CDs hidden on your hard drive. It is the same steps as above except instead of inserting a CD you would use the following as step 2:
When the Compaq logo appears, press the F10 key on the keyboard. (You have only a few seconds to press the F10 key before the normal startup process continues.)
If you this doesn't work and you are certain you don't have your recovery CDs you can get a new set directly from Compaq from the following site:
https://warp2.external.hp.com/driver/dr_country_select.asp?Product=438985-001&lang=en&cc=us
