Start locking your key pad or external screen by pulling on the switch in between the camera button and the volume button also you can set a pass code to lock it. I had to lol i know the feeling. Also having nails works for the screen but use a stylus to point with Otherwise when you barely t0uch the screen it types everything but what you want it too.
The screen isn't actually black when the player isn't turned on, more of a dark grey color. I say this because it's actually possible for the player to turn the screen darker when it's turned on ... the lettering on iPod menus is darker than the background color.
I would recommend that you try to reset the player, but given that it sounds like it's one of those Chinese clones of an iPod, and not an iPod itself, I don't know how you'd reset it. Most MP3 players can be reset by sliding and holding the power switch into the "on" position for some number of seconds (try 20), then releasing it.
That's just the contrast and brightness of your screen. all you need need to do is to hit 2nd and then hit the up arrow. you will need to do this several times for it to get darker. Everytime you do it you need to hit the 2nd key and then the up arrow.
