The problem with the Insert key is that people press it twice, just to make sure it was pressed. It is a toggle key, so first press allows Insert, and the second press turns it off.

The Insert key allows you to type in a line of text deleting the character that is in front of it as the new characters go in.

The Delete key just deletes anything in front of it, or any file or folder highlighted at the time.

I have a lot of redundant items in my itunes library and want to delete them. Itunes help says just pint at them press delete and you will be offerred a remove option. doesn't work. I point, point...

First, make sure you're actually in the music library listing, and not in a particular playlist.

Then, if you're in Windows, make sure you're hitting the "delete" key and not the "backspace" key.
Your other option is to right click on the item you want to delete, then select "Delete" from the list of options.

If you're on a Mac, you'll need to hit the function key (fn) at the same time as the "delete" key.
Or, you can press Ctrl while clicking the mouse on the song you want to delete, then select "delete."

Let me know if these options don't work for you!

Delete key doesn't work

The ". del" key on the Numerick KeyPad will delete if you use the SHIFT key at the same time. It is easier to use the DEL key on the main keypad.

Where is the delete button on a french keyboard!

In wordprocessing or email the backspace key deletes the previous charachter and isnot the same as the Delete key which deletes the next charachter.

On my girlfriend's french pc the delete key is marked "Suppr". It works to delete the next character and also for the "executive override" function which will reboot an old pc or get you to Task Manager in windows.

Since I installed Firefox my delete key on the keyboard will not work. How do I fix this?

Hello !

The two (installing Firefox and the Delete key not working) are not related.

Pop off the Delete key with a flat screwdriver. Be careful just to pop the top. With compressed air, clean the area of the key.

Press the key back on. If you experience problems reattaching, try a very, very tiny dab of adhesive to secure it. For a good adhesive, I'd recommend Blu-Tack.

Hope this helps.

Delete key on macbook pro won't work

you may have inadvertently set up a keyboard short cut on the delete key... go to your system preference app in the dock. Then select keyboard shortcuts... if you select "default" at the bottom of the window it will revert to the factory shortcuts and eliminate any you may have accidentally created...
Hope that solves your delete issue...

My daughters MacBook "DELETE" key does not work. Any fix ideas?

Check the Speech settings in System Preferences. Your delete key may have been selected as a Listening Key. Disable Speakable Items. See if that helps.
