SOURCE: Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator ice dispenser

First pull out the ice bucket and close the door.  Set for cubed ice.  Press the button for ice to come out and listen for a loud clunk noise.  That is the sound of the solenoid.  You can open the door, hold the light switch and press the button and watch for the solenoid moving up and down.  Solenoid is at the back of the freezer in a little square opening where the rod on the ice bucket goes into.  If that solenoid is moving ok then put the bucket back in while the solenoid is in the down position and cubes should work.  If solenoid is not working then it will need to be replaced.  Let me know what you find.

SOURCE: ice dispenser will not switch back to cubed from crushed

Had the same problem, dispenser stuck on crushed ice, even when cubed ice is selected.  There is a magnetic switch behind the panel where the motor for the ice dispenser is.  It gets water in it and freezes so it is not free to go up and down.  It is always down for crushed, but for cubed ice, the magnet pulls it up.  when it's frozen with ice, all you'll get is crushed.  You'll have to defrost it.  You can defrost the whole freezer, but better to just remove the ice dispenser and defrost that. Three 1/4'' bolts hold secure it.  You'll have to unplug the wires from the back of the freezer to remove the unit. The just let it defrost and dry. You can remove the switch from the panel and dry it out too.   I've had to to this several times and am looking for a solution to keeping water out of the thing so it won't freeze again. Has anybody solved that?

SOURCE: Ice dispenser only dispenses crushed ice

You may not need to replace the solenoid.  If you hear the hum, and not a loud click and don't see then rod move, it may be frozen with ice.  Test it manually with your hand, it should be free  to move up and down.  If not, then it is frozen with ice.  Remove the ice dispenser and let it thaw and dry out.  You should then be able to move to rod and it will work fine, at least until it freezes again.  Anyone know how to prevent it from freezing up? Its a continual problem for me

SOURCE: Ice maker only dispenses crushed ice, won't dispense cubed ice anymore.

I have a GE TFX25ppbaaa refrigerator. The ice maker corkscrew motor would run and provide crushed ice only. The corkscrew motor would not run when the switch was moved to the cubed ice ( half moon) setting.

I replaced the large Light/ water/ crushed ice/cubed ice switch , ( product service number GEH WR55X129 ) ( part number GE 162D6372 PO17 )and it fixed the problem. Cost was about $43.00.

SOURCE: Ice Maker GSI-26 dispenses crushed ice and will not dispense cube

You have a solenoid switch which switches the dispenser back and forth from crushed to cube. It could be stuck or not working or the parts connecting it could be disconnected or broken. You will have to observe to see if any parts are moving and if any noise is coming from the solenoid

Why does Ice in ice maker sticks together, forms clumps. Jams, then kicks latch open

I'm pretty sure there's an owners manual section on adjusting the ICE-MAKER's fill level... (url @ bottom)

Every-other caution SEZ
"Thou shalt not RESET more often than 24 hours"

Over-filling can cause the cubes to be strongly connected... and cause clumping issues in the bin...

Also look to see that the cubes are not hollow... that is a different adjustment.

Make small adjustments... you will be happy...

Big (evidently FREQUENT) adjustment can cause more trouble than inviting the Samsonite gorilla in to SERVICE your appliance...

GE GSH25JFRF BB ice maker doesn't dispense. Water dispenses and ice maker makes ice but won't come out.

There should be a plastice hinge cover on the left top hinge on freezer door. Take it off and press the plug together firmly. Try that and let me know, Sea Breeze

I have a french door refrig with two ice makers. I cubes seem to be wet in door when crushing ice. Also in bottom ice maker the cubes are stuck together in tray in one clump. I lowered temp to -4 but it...

You need to check the door seal. If you place a $bill in the door it should have resistance all the way around as you pull the bill through. It may just be that the doors need adjustment.. If you are able to maintain -4, the ice maker heaters may not be working properly. Also, you want to check the water valve to make sure that you are getting cold water to the icemakers as hot water coming into the fridge can also cause this. If this is the problem, you can use a longer coiled line for the water inlet valve.

Water and ice cube dispenser working fine, crushed ice not crushing. 26 cuft side by side model MZD266SHES

You have a solenoid switch which switches the dispenser back and forth from crushed to cube. It could be stuck or not working or the parts connecting it could be disconnected or broken. You will have to observe to see if any parts are moving and if any noise is coming from the solenoid. Crushed ice is the default position and the solenoid is energized to cube ice.
Remove the dispenser cover by gently prying starting at the bottom going round and round a little at a time to prevent from breaking it. When it's off the screws will be exposed to access the other components.

My samsung rfg297aa dispenses crushed ice whether its set on crushed or cubed. why will it no longer dispense cubes?

This answer probably comes too late for you (you posted the question 9 months ago), but I want to record it here for posterity, since I had the same problem, and searching on Google for it brought up your question.
Anyway, I managed to fix this very problem by removing an ice cube that was wedged in the ice dispensing mechanism. The way this unit works is that it pushes the ice cubes through the mechanism, which always rotates the "crushing blades". When you select "cubed" ice, a lever opens up the exit chute wider, which causes the blades to simply push out the ice cubes as they pass through. When you select "crushed" ice, the lever closes the "exit" for the ice cubes to be narrower, so that the ice cubes can't be pushed through by the blades, and instead get crushed by them. I had an ice cube wedged in there that had the same effect of closing the exit to be narrower. Removing it fixed the problem.
You might want to collect all the ice cubes that have accumulated in the ice bucket in a container, empty the ice bucket, clean out the mechanism from any obstructions, and then put the ice cubes back into the ice bucket.

The ice in my icemaker is clumping so it gets stuck and wont dispense the ice until I remove the drawer and take out the clumped ice. It is happening at least 3 times a day. Any solutions?

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

You can have a defective ice maker, if your unit is under warranty, i would use it.
your cubes are staying wet to long, and then freezing together.

All is depending on your freezer temps, and the ice maker. it takes a experienced service person to figure it out.

Try removing the ice bucket and ensure that there is no obstruction (ice cubes stuck inside of metal blades). If no obstruction, then your problem may be in the electronic dispenser control board (if applicable) that distinguishes between cubed and crushed ice. If it appears that the problem is the board, then contact an appliance service company.

Ice dispenser in door clogged up or frozen

I see this a lot with people who mainly used crushed ice.  It will leave small pieces of ice behind and add up to a clogged situation.  If you mainly used crushed ice you will need to run full cubes thru every so often to keep the chute clear.  Another cause of this would be the flapper door on the dispenser doesn't close completely and warm air gets in and melts the ice in the bin so it clumps together and won't dispense.  In this case you may need to replace the solenoid that shuts the door and/or the door.  Let me know what you find.
