SOURCE: No memory card will work in my Coolpix camera

Nikon has tested the following cards and approved their use in the Coolpix 3200:

SD memory cards:
SanDisk 16/32/64/128/256MB
Panasonic 16/32/64/128/256/512
Toshiba 16/32/64/128/256MB

Other brands and capacities of cards may work, but Nikon cannot guarantee their operation. Check with the manufacturer of the third-party card for compatibility information. Nikon recommends keeping one of the approved cards available for troubleshooting.

Multi Media cards (MMC) are not recommended and should not be used.

the 4800 is a older model that won't support a sdhc card-go back to 2gb or smaller and problem solved-don't waste money on high speed cards for a basic point and shoot camera

I'm sorry but you can't use the camera as a webcam. Here is why. There is no function on the camera to stream video.
Also, the camera goes into standby mode after 30 seconds (by default). And 3 minutes after that, it shuts off completely. It does that to save batteries. Again. I'm sorry. Good webcams average between $20. to $50. usd and they are made to work 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

You can use a 4GB memory card in your camera, as long as it's an SD card.

If you get that message, it means you haven't formatted the card for use in that camera. You have to format the card in the camera before you use it.

Even though the solution was not what you prpbably wanted, don't let it stop you from rating it a fixya. I would appreciate it. Let me know if I can help you with anything else, and thanks for coming to FixYa.

Why won't my Nikon coolpix L820 read a SD card

Is this a card that has worked before and now doesn't? Do other card(s) work in the unit? If a card is attempted to be installed backward, it can damage the internal connections and make the card slot inoperative. Also, there are restrictions on the type, size, and speed of cards that can be used (identified) within the device. Here is a link to the manual; check page 20 of the technical notes and index (page 230 of the pdf).

Keep getting this card can not be used in my Coolpix L820 which type of card should be used

Oops, Your camera is not that new. Not only watch the capacity of the card, but also what the name is.
Your camera only can work with the MMC and SD cards.
The modern cards from 2 GByte are already SDHC, and your camera can't handle those. You need to find some SD cards from 1 or 2 Gbyte.
I recentey mannaged to buy two 4 Gbyte SD cards, but that is an exaction. 2 Gbyte should be SD, but in almost all stores you only find the DSHC. The equipment made for SDHC, can use MMC, SD and SDHC cards, not the other way around. Made for SD, only SD (and MMC)
Although mechanical they look the same. the address lines are accessed different. a11c7bb2-e13b-4274-9fa1-4b613c1d8517.png

I would hope you have tried removing the battery, charging it and replacing it first already. The next thing I would try is to set the camera to factory default options.

Cannot download pictures to computer from Nikon L820

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

If the Nikon uses a SD memory card then the memory card maybe too slow.
Try using a class 8 or 10 SD memory card.

Sounds like the memory card in the camera has gone bad, or the camera has glitched. Try replacing the card. If it still does it, the cam has issues.

My nikon coolpix s4000 can't read the memory card. Why

Remove the memory card and you will find a switch on the left side of the card. It must be locked, so slide or push the lock on other side to open it and then insert the card back to the Camera.

Your problem carries all the hallmarks of "your card isn't fast enough". Check your manual to see what speed of card is required for HD video. If it doesn't say, try a card that says as least "Class 10" or "10Mb/s" or "66x". If you set the movie resolution down to 640x480 it has a better chance of working

You need to unlock the card itself. Take it out and look for a tab on the left. It should be pushed up.
