Hp deskjet f380 won't print from external network

I have set up the printer as a shared printer on network it has been set up by my clients tech support. Although the documents are coming through (i Have to turn of my firewall first) to the printer they won't print and just tell me there was an error. I have to delete them then to print from my computer. The tech support that set it up dont know why it wont work?

Yes it does, but it did the same thing when we tried a home network. it's as if it doesnt want to be shared

I have just checked and there is no security Tab in printer properties.

Yes the file & Printer sharing option is tagged, and my firewall is operated through norton, which is why i had to disable this before i connected.

I've done this and now i have no connection to the link. It says Error 800: Unable to establish VPN Connection, Vpn Unreachable or Security Parameters may not be configured properly. This is a headache>>>>

Open the properties of your network connection. Is file and printer sharing installed?

Open your windows firewall settings. Is file and printer sharing enabled as an exception?

Which operating system (and version) has been installed on the computer?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

The printer properties should contain a 'security'-tab. There you can specify which users are allowed to use the printer. Is 'everybody' listed and does it have all rights?

Does the printer work normally from the computer it's been directly connected to?

Disable Norton firewall (it's just too bad) and enable Windows firewall.

VPN inside a LAN? I'm afraid your problem is too complex to be solved from distance.

Can i scan over the network on a deskjet f380?

Yes, but the configuration needs to be a network, rather than hosted and shared, setup. Network printers work much better and do not require a host computer, after set up.

How do you run a print test for an HP deskjet F355 all-in-one printer?

This is invoked at the printer properties and set up page. Look for print a test page.

HP printers often perform poorly if hooked up using Plug and Play. Download the latest install software directly from HP, and follow directions exactly, no plug and play. All computers need the same install for networked printer (meaning not hosted and shared).
