Question about Toshiba 26LV610U LCD TV

1 Answer

Possibly fried screen

It went through a power surge and now the screen stays black when it is on. The green light in the front comes on but there is no picture or sound. Can I fix this issue and how?

This is probable the lcd backlight inverter. If you have sound then look at the screen up close with a flashlight and see if there are images. If you can see images then the back light has problems and it is most likely the inverter.

SOURCE: We had a storm come

Hi,
Unplug your unit for 1 hour, before you power it on, press and hold the power button for 1 minute.
If the symptoms still there, then this is an indication that the power supply board was gone to malfunction. Some voltage surge protector is not a 100% reliable because it depends how high is the voltage surge coming from the source and if the design can handle such surged to avoid damaged to the unit. In your case, obviously the surge protector doesn't react efficiently.
Yes this kind of symptoms is quite fixable but needs to send it in because I've suspected that not only the power supply board was faulty but also the mainboard because your direct TV box was also fried which is connected to the TV.
Check if your unit is under warranty/extended warranty, avail it because the manufacturer will fix it for free, but of course don't mention that the unit was fried due to storm. If not, ask for an estimate first for service fee ($300 more or less depends upon the shop) plus parts to have an idea whether to send it in or buy a new TV.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Sony Projection TV 60 XBR, wont turn on, blinking green light

This sounds like when the power came back on a surge went into your tv and burnt out the TVs main power supply or possibly burn out the flyback power converter on the TV main board!
(I am pretty sure it is either one of these things!)

Red blinking light

If the red lights comes on and stays on, you will need to replace the lamp. However, if the red light blinks repeatedly, your internal motherboard was either fried during a recent power surge, or the circut board will need recalibrating. In short, you will need to contact a cert. technician to re-initialize your set. It may be more cost-efficient to purchase new flat-screen plasma set. Good luck with your investment.
