- Yes I understand that and have done that but i can not find an option that will allow me to download the images on the camera hard drive. Do you have any suggestions?
There is no harddrive in this camera. It will flash a warning as you start taking pictures without a card in it.
Sorry, your pictures are lost irretrievably.
What photowizzard is talking about is that it's possible to shoot tethered, meaning that you can download pictures to your computer as you're shooting them. But not if you attach the cord "after the fact".
You should have a small firewire or mini usb connection that you can attach directly to your computer - simply find the "hard drive" that is your camera, find the files and download to your Hard drive on the computer, preferably straight into you photo handling software or to your desktop

- Have you found the pictures on your camera's hard drive by looking at your computer whilst connected by usb? If so then you should simply be able to drag the files to your computer. Either that or use your photo handling software to "import" the pictures (are you using Vista - I'm Mac based so not too familiar, but know that my daughters image handling is all there in Windows).
If you are having trouble identifying the camera as a drive, have you installed any software that came with your camera onto your computer? If not then you may need to do that. The other thing is that Canon provide their own image handling software with their cameras (or used to) - might this work better for you?

I have a canon EOS400d and there's an error 5 message that appears when i manually activate the flash by pressing the button on the left side. I have checked online and many people were able to solve their problem by making sure the micro switch in the hotshoe is NOT depressed. The micro switch in my hotshoe is not depressed. I tried to "persuade" the flash by simultaneously pressing the button on the left side and used my thumb and forefinger to force the flash open and it works. When i forced open the flash though, it does not seem to move freely, maybe it needs lubrication?
