SOURCE: GE Advantium oven SCA 2000

The fact that it stopped during cooking, then came back on after several minutes, tells me that the magnetron probably overheated and its thermostat (called the M.G.T. T.C.O. in the service manual here) opened until it cooled back down.

An overheating magnetron can be due to:

  • operating oven without cover(s) in place
  • wrong magnetron installed in oven
  • an old or otherwise failing magnetron
  • cracked magnetron magnet
  • improper power line voltage (should be 110-125VAC)
  • foods low in moisture (popcorn & bacon, e.g. - add 1/2 cup of water in rear oven)
  • failed or inoperable cooling fan or hood vent exhaust fan
  • deteriorating foam weatherstripping seals in air ducts or on outside cover
  • blocked air vents (dust, animal nest debris, insufficient free air space behind & around oven, etc.)
  • clogged or greasy charcoal filter or grease filter
  • blocked duct in hood vent exhaust
The fact that the oven is now quieter tells me that one of the high voltage components may have failed, or the high voltage section is not getting power.

It may be as simple as a failed top door switch (see this test file) or it may be a failed high voltage component, most likely the high voltage rectifier diode or the magnetron.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html
(continuity can be good even though mag is bad!)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it is NOT shorted or burned looking, it's probably fine)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/xformer.html

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Note that the magnetron has a five-year warranty. If it's under magnetron warranty, GE will send you the magnetron to do it yourself.

If the magnetron is bad, call them at 888-239-6832 with the full model number, serial number, and date of manufacture.

How do I set the microwave for 50% power?

Hello, Linda -

Without knowing the make and model of microwave oven you are asking about I can only give general instructions. You can add the make and model of microwave by choosing Comment and adding the information there.

Generally, after placing whatever you want to heat or cook in a microwave save dish or on a microwave safe plate and place the food and dish inside the microwave and closing the door, you follow these steps:
- Using the key pad / number pad, press in the time you want the microwave to run
- Assuming there is a POWER button on the key pad, press that button
- Most likely a P will display
- On the keypad, press 50 (for 50 %) or maybe just 5
- Press START

This web page provides detailed instructions:

Best wishes.

How do I change temp and time while food is cooking?

all is explained in the user manual
if you have just put food in the even and pressed the start several times to get a number of minutes to cook but want to increase that time just press start again the number of times that you want the cook time to increase
for example :-
you put a frozen pie in the oven and your start operates in 30 second increments and you have pushed it 3 times and it starts cooking-BUT - you read the cooking instructions and it says cook for 4 minutes, just press the start another 3 times while it is cooking
the new cook time will show on the display

I have a tiffany Micro Vec that has no instruction manual. I want to know how I can get one without payment as it should have come with it in the first place

I tried to locate the manual with google, but unfortunately had no success. You could ask some specialized manual search engines, like here or here. The services are not for free, but most times worthy - saved my live more than once.

My grandmother gave me her Sunbeam Food Preparation center before she expired and I need a part for the mixer. The food preparation center model # is 736-26. The part I need is a rubber piece that fits...

If you were to log on to the manufacturer's web site, I think you will be pleasantly surprised as usually one is able to download, by model number, Customer Instruction Manuals, list of Dealers for spare part supplies as required.

The information is normally free of charge.

I hope this helps.

I hav 2 buttons that hav signs on it at the top of my freezer i dont know what theyre for...if i push 1 of the buttons it lights up so i dont know if they should be on or off cause i dont know what theyr...

An orange button with a snowflake on it normally means 'fast freeze' and should only be used (lit up) if you have added a large item to the freezer and want it to freeze quickly. I assume the button marked 'super' means 'super fast freeze' but without knowing the make and model of your freezer it's difficult to be certain. If you can provide those details I will respond again.
