Thanks all. Have tried uninstall/reinstall, to the same result. Have run a scan and picked up one baddie, but still not fixed the problem. Installed Firefox as hate IE, and it offered to copy all my bookmarks, which was what I really wanted, but so far, it is struggling to keep up with my usage (which is not excessive by any means) :/

If you don't like IE so much, then try using it.

SOURCE: google ghrome keeps freezing on face book why?

Try another browser or go download and reinstall Google Chrome. Don't delete the chrome you already have installed otherwise you will lose your bookmarks and settings. Just download and install it again and let the system handle upgrading and saving your settings.

Try downloading Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Google Chrome. Unlike Internet Explorer they install in less than 5 minutes and they are faster and safer than Internet Explorer.

Go to www.google.com and in the search box type: "Download Mozilla Firefox" (without the quotes). Download and Install Mozilla Firefox from Mozilla's website. Do the same thing for Opera and Google Chrome.

I've put the links of each one below so if you like you can just click on them to go to their site to do the download and install.

Make sure google is up to date. They have not too long ago updated the good chrome software.

Do a virus/malware scan to see if that causing it to crash. I generally use malwarebytes, its free to use to scan and remove. You can pay for 1 year for it, up to you to decide.

Make sure you have adequate ram to run chrome, its not a good idea to keep too many tabs, if your system cannot handle the load. Google chrome loves to eat chunky memory.

uninstall chrome from Add Remove programs. Go to your user profile folder within Documents and Settings. Delete the Chrome folder within Application Data. Be aware that this will clean out all of your previous bookmarks etc. Reinstall chrome from the Google Chrome website. Worked for me, History started logging straight away although it took a while for Chrome to initiate the Most Visited pages I had visited after reinstall.
