Question about Rainbow Technologies D4 Bagless Vacuum

Open Question

Meter Switch for Rainbow D4 Vacuum

The unit died while in use. My wife thought the cord came out of the wall outlet but after trying different outlets, we realized it's the unit. the brushes are worn down and probably need replacing but I want to eliminate the on/off switch as a possibility. I removed the switch and the toggle piece(on/off printed on it) but can't see how to get inside to meter it. Is there a way to meter the switch and, if so, how and what should a correct reading be? thanks.

SOURCE: I need to know how to attach the aquamate

You should have a non-electric hose which you want to attach to the vacuum suction, then take the long skinny hose and hook it to you kitchen faucet. You may have to unscrew the end piece from your faucet. turn on youir hot water. On the handle of the aquamate, there is a little holder. Unhook it by releasing the yellow button. Put your shampoo to the line, no need to dilute, the Aquamate will mix the right amount to the water. Now you are ready to shampoo. You can pick up water until you hear the machine stress out. That is time to change the water in the basin. It is probably best to change it before that, but don't worry, the separator keeps it out of the motor. Hope this helps fixya! SOURCE: D4 Rainbow leaking water around the water basin

Clean the water separator. Use a tooth brush if you do not have the Rainbow separator cleaning brush. It is the same thing, and works perfectly. :-)

Rainbow e2 type 12 120v , accidentally plugged into 220v, would barely power up, possibly controller board defective?

probably need both as the extra 100 volts would burn the board and the motor
it is never advisable to buy electric equipment from another country because of the voltage differences but even then the plugs are made different so that the cord will not plug directly into the power outlet.

Rainbow power head works but canister dont model d4

Chances are the motor died or went bad.
You would have to get a new motor.
You can find one here:

Rainbow D4 SE motor 120V

Or a more cost effective refurbished D4 motor unit here:

How does the Power Head wire up to the switch on the Rainbow SE?

Here is the wiring for a D4 switch:

Rainbow no longer makes the switch with 6 wires, it comes now with only 4.

Why rainbow vac wont turn on

There are numerous reasons. If there was no smoke or burning smell, first try a different outlet. Then you can try wiggling the cord and check cord for damage, if you can get it to start and it turns off again cord is loose or damaged. Try the switch, sometimes switch wears out, if it is not making a click sound or is very loose it may be the switch. The most common reason for an E series to not start after working just fine is a broken actuator on the water basin or missing from the bottom of the vacuum. There is a raised part on the water basin that depresses a little black plastic actuator on the bottom of the vacuum. This is a safety switch to make sure the water basin is there so the vacuum will turn on. You can try pressing in on that and trying to start your vacuum, if it starts you will need to check and see if the part is broken off of your basin or if the little black actuator is missing. You can see pictures here.

Power cord leaks green oil

I suggest that you replace that corroding internally power cord. It may not be safe to use that power cord.

You can get your model information, at the bottom of your vacuum canister, from underneeth, where the water pan attaches to it.

It is probably a D3, or a D4

I just purchased a rainbow D4C, after purchasing i was told i should have purchased the SE model. whats the difference?

There is only one difference between the D4 and the D4 SE, which stands for D4 (Special Edition). It is the exhaust plug screws in on an SE and snaps in on a regular D4.

Then the SE-PE came along, which stands for (Special Edition-Performance Edition) which has a more powerful motor, with larger motor brushes, for more power and runs on 9.8 amps, where the regular SE and D4 run on 8.8 amps. It also has the newer PN-2 power nozzle, which is very much like the latest E and E2 series Rainbow vacuums, instead of the earlier rectangular ones, that have the bottom metal plate, which will rust. You can upgrade your D4 to one of these, though you will need the electric hose with gas pump style handle, with the built in power corn in it.

They are all D4 models.
