Setting up Voicemail for a Nortel MICS USA Verison # 4.12

Hi I just moved into this building and we have inherited this Nortel Phone system. We got the Keycode and were able to revive it, but I am at a loss as to How to set up Voicemail for my employies! Can someone please help me!? I know all about the nessary passwords to access the installers menu and stuff. But where do I go from there? Do I have to enter each and every phone number? And what and how do I set up their names and personal passwords? Please help!

    • First of all, is your telephone system a Norstar CIC'c/ MIC'c -or- BCM.



      If you do not know, do a FEATURE * * 2 6 6 3 4 4 at a programming set...

      Does it say: USER ID: -or- LOG: ???



      Thay are different systems and they are programmed differently for each system...

      You have all the passwords to get in, great lets get started then...



      How to Create a New Voice Mail Box

      1. Press "Feature".
      2. Press "983".
      3. Enter your password.
      4. Press "OK".
      5. You will see: "MBox" "AA" and "other".
      6. Press "Mbox".
      7. Press "Add".
      8. Enter the new mailbox number.
      9. Press "*" to skip adding the new extension number.
      10. You will see "Service Class:"
      11. Enter "1" for the mailbox class of service.
      12. Type in the name using the key pad:
      ie. If the name is Smith, J
      Press "7" three times
      Press "#" to go to the next letter
      Press "6" once
      Press "#" to go to the next letter
      Press "4" three times
      Press "#" to go to the next letter
      Press "8" once
      Press "#" to go to the next letter
      Press "4" twice
      Press "#" twice for a comma
      Press "5" once for the first initial of the first name.
      12. Press "OK".
      13. You will see "Directory".
      14. Choose "Yes" or "No".
      15. You will see "Message Waiting".
      16. Choose "Yes" or "No" and skip over everything else.
      17. You will see "Mailbox Admin"
      "ADD" "DEL" "CHNG".
      19. Press "Rls" to exit (orange button to the right of the number buttons).



      The mailbox is now created, next time the user dials into F981 and types in the default password 0000, it will ask them to change their password, put in their name for the directory, and they will add the greeting afterwards by dialling 8 after the mailbox is initialized.



      Now that the mailbox is created, you have to get into system programming to foward no answer to point to the voicemail, otherwise the phone will consistantly ring, not going anywhere, until it recalls back to the receptionist.

How to Change a Mailbox Password 1. To access the voice mail system press Feature.
2. Press 9 8 3.
3. When you see Log: enter ~ SETNNA (738662) and press OK
4. Pswd: CONFIG (266344)
5. Press "MBOX".
6. Press "CHNG".
7. Enter the mailbox number you wish to reset.
8. Press "Reset".
9. Press "Rls" to exit (orange button to the right of the number buttons).
Default password is "0000".

      After you change the password; and get back into the mailbox, press 8 to make changes to the: user name, password, greeting.

Reset the voicemail password.

Do so by first presing

Function 985 (to view the mailbox number the phone is using)
Function 983
Log: 1020000 (or 120000, 10020000 1st is for 2 digit extensions 2nd is for 4 digit extensions)
Left Button (MBOX)
Right Button (CHG)
Enter Extension
Left Button (RESET)

This should reset the passwod to 0000, the steps maybe a little bit off depending on the software version installed on the phone system, but something like that will fix the problem.

I am not a phone installer and we have another vendors' phone system here at our work.

It can be *extremely* difficult setting up these phone systems, even with a manual.
