Hi I treid to do a ROM update on my HP iPAQ 4150. The update stopped and the screen now shows 1.05H and 1.02 and only the HP logo. Does not go anyfurther. Furthermore the iPAQ is not recognized by...

I ran into the same issue with a H4150. Pull the main battery and let it sit without the battery for a while; a few seconds is not long enough. I let it sit for about two minutes and that was long enough on each of the four times I needed to recover from a failed ROM upgrade last night. This reset the H4150 and it then initialized like it was just out of the box; all data and settings were reset to original. Some troubleshooting procedures indicate you should not use a USB hub for this process. That did not work for me-the ROM upgrade still breaks the connection just after getting started. But at least pulling the battery got the iPAQ back to a useable condition. My next test will be to try it from an old PC with Windows 98 and USB 1.1 or 1.0. Maybe the brief disconnection is normal and a fast PC with a modern OS may not be as forgiving to brief upsets. Just as the ROM update really begins (after all the handshaking), the iPAQ briefly drops the connection and that's when the update fails, it just takes a little longer for the software to say 'hey-I've lost communication with the iPAQ...'

Not turning on

Hi there, I think you pressed some more buttons and accidentaly you entered your device into Serial Mode (Bootloader), which you should update your ROM or reinstall your existing ROM in order to exit that state. I am sending you a link to HP website including your device's ROM upgrade download link, and a complete list of instructions. First of all, connect your device with a usb cable to your PC and see the "USB Mode" in the screen of your PDA. Also please be carefull and read the instructions very carefully before starting the process. Here is the link: (〈=en&cc=us&idx=0&mode=4&) Hope this helps. Have a nice day.

How to instal english language pack

Just Google through the internet with the words "rx3715 language upgrade rom" and you will find several references to it.

At the end, you will find a couple of places where they have the lniks to access directly the HP/Compaq fttp sites, and download the ROM upgrade files in different language versions.

Also, in the web you will find a couple of sites that have the specific instructions and procedures to do it.

On purpose I am not giving you such sites and links because I have to warn you: such files and procedures work in 90% of the times. The catch is that such procedures forces the PDA to accept the new language rom, but in 10% of the times, such process is aborted with no apparent reason, and the PDA is converted in an useless PDA, but it is converted in a good looking paper weight or dead brick.

Bottom line, it's possible to change the language ROM (I did it a lot of times before: English, Spanish, Chinese, Italian and French), but it's risky, and it will damage permanently your PDA (such as I did in two of them).

Best regards,

Best regards,

Ipaq H4150

Have you used a Vista PC as the host machine? ROM updates can only be done from a Win XP or 2000.

Hook the iPaq to an Win XP or 2k PC, install active sync first, and then get the ROM update again. Run the Rom Update Utility and it will recognise the iPaq and will update it correctly. :)

Vanishing of sms folder.

If after a hard reset the PDA doesn't give you back the sms folder, it is most likely to asume that a ROM reinstall must be done. If you have a USB sync cable, check the HP site and download the ROM version for your Ipaq. Carefull with the rom upgrade, it's a simple process but must be done with care and by the instructions given there.
