Does this valve have a standing pilot? if not, if my hot surface ignitor lights up and the furnace fails to light would you consider it to be a faulty gas valve? I am getting a constant 24 volts fro

Thank you for solving this. I would have to agree. If you change the gas valve that would probably fix the problem for you. Ruth James |http://www.absoluteairinc.com/furnace-in...

If your getting 24 Volts to the gas Valve and the gas Valve is not opening replace your gas valve If your not getting a full 24 volts check your Transformer and the ground to the gas valve. If the gas valve still does not open change the Gas valve.

Burner on Bryant 90 PLUS won't turn on and it only blows cold air. I usually can see blue flame in the inspection window when the furnace was functioning properly. Is there a switch that I can reset to...

This system will not have a pilot light, instead it will have an electronic ignition or hot surface ignitor. The problem can be a number of things. You can check to see the operation of the unit by having someone turn the thermostat on while you are at the unit and go from there. The order of operation will be:
Inducer draft motor starts (small motor in heat compartment), after the motor runs and pulls the pressure switch in, telling the furnace that its safe, it then starts the ignitor. This will either sound like a clicking noise until the pilot lights or there will be a orange glow by the burners, after a few seconds, the gas valve calls and the burners should ignite.
By doing this, you can get more information to what the problem actually is. If your unit fails to start the inducer draft motor, fails to call for ignitor, fails to call at gas valve, fails to stay on after ignition. Your system should have a control board with LED trouble lights also. If you can see blinking lights, count the number of times they blink, then look for a trouble code chart, usually on the back of a panel. Hope this helps!

How to light a pilot light on a gas furnace

If your gas furnace is an older type with a standing pilot light, this video is for you.

If your furnace is a newer, more efficient type, it most like has either an Electronic Spark Ignitor or Hot Surface Ignitor that does not allow you to relight.

REMEMBER: If you don't have a CO Detector less than 5 years old in both your main living area and in your bedroom - get them today. CO is colorless, odorless, and deadly.

When the heat cycle calls for gas there is no ignition is my gas valve bad?

I don't know what kind of furnace you have. But most furnaces have some sort of pilot first than after it is proven than the main gas will come on. Either a standing Pilot with a thermocouple. A hot surface ignition or Spark ignition with a flame sensor. Or a direct fire system where hot surface or spark ignitor start first than all the burners send a 1 sec blast of gas which is proven by the flame sensor if it proves the gas valve stays on.....
In what you have said you have 24 volts to the gas valve and it has not lite. then does the gas valve have a pilot tube???Does it have a thermocouple?? Do you smell gas?? If you don't smell gas then the main part of the valve has not opened. The Pilot valve has to open first and prove before the main gas will come on. I hope this helps. If you still need help repost with the name and model # of the furnace.

Lighting pilot on Ruud 80 plus furnace?

Hi, There is no pilot and the flame is lit by a hot surface ignitor... The hot surface ignitors go bad frequently...you probably need to replace that...

Here is a tip that will help you try to figure out why your furnace is notworking.

Why heater coils glow?

It sounds like you're describing one of two things. The hot surface ignitor in a gas-fired furnace, or the resistive heat strips in an electric furnace.

The hot surface ignitor in a gas-fired furnace lights the burners. This ignitor in modern furnaces serves the same purpose as the standing pilot flame did in older furnaces. It provides the required heat to ignite the gas at the burners. Without an ignition source, a gas-fired furnace cannot provide heat. When the ignitor is activated it will glow bright orange or yellow.

The resistive heat strips in an electric furnace actually provide the heat to a home or building. When the furnace turns on, the heat strips are activated and usually glow orange when they reach peak temperature. In almost all cases, the heat strips are not easily seen or accessed without removing covers or panels inside the furnace.

Where is the pilot light located on the furnace?

Depending on what kind of furnace you have and how old it is, you may not have a standing pilot. Newer furnaces use electronic ignition systems. Hot surface ignitors and spark ignition.

Furnace has automatic ignition pilot light comes on for about 10 seconds then goes back out and furnace blows cold air

Check and make sure you have gas on to the unit and to the gas valve in the furnace.. Check for 24 volts at the gas valve at the furance. Check and make sure the knob at the gas valve is in the "on" position. If you have voltage at the valve than the valve has failed. If you have no voltaged at the valve than the circuit board has failed. One last thing you can check if you do have voltage at the valve. When the hot surface ignitor is glowing orange tap on the gas valve with the handle of a screw diver. Sometimes the valve sticks. Of coarse if this works it will probably stick again. Replace the valve in this case.

Will not light flashes code ignition lockout

The unit will go into lockout after a couple of attempts to start and fails. The most common reasons for this are the gas is shut off or not reaching the unit somehow, either the gas line in or the gas valve itself is defective, or you can also have an ignitor out. Depending on your model, you can have a ignitor the glows hot (hot surface), standing pilot, or spark (which you can hear sparking). Hope this helps.

Furnace quit. Doesn't even run the air intake

Are you sure you have a standing Pilot? You would know if you had to light it. Perhaps you have a hot
surface ignition system, on a call for heat the induced
draft blower will run, then the hot surfave ignitor located on the far right side of burner should glow red
and the burners should light.

Check to make sure the flame rollout switch on the
left side of the burners is not tripped.

How to light a American Standard furnace

If it is an old furnace with a manual pilot light there are pilot lighting instructions usually on a door or panel. If it is 15 years old or newer it probably has either a spark ignition or a hot surface ignitor. These can't be lit manually. If they fail they usually require parts to be repaired.
