Nintendo DS Power On Fault

Hi, I recently replaced the shell on my sons DS after the hinge broke. The machine was working fine with the broken hinge but now it will not power up in the new shell! I have checked the ribbon cable connections a thousand times (Well it seems that many!) and I am now in the mood to take a sledgehammer to it!! When the power on button is pressed the green light coems on for 2 seconds and the bottom screen flashes. Then it turns off. I have searched the internet for a possible solution and so far have had no ideas. Any adivce would be appreciated.

Hi and thanks for the reply. I had read that elsewhere and had already checked. I took a gamble last week and ordered a new cable and this w/e I replaced it and thankfully the DS burst into life! Also found that the fuse F2 (near the battery contacts) hadalso blown. A blob of solder fixed this :-)

Initially when trying out the new cable i found the DS would only stay powered up when I kept the finger on the power button. However I soon realised that the new problem was due to the fact I was inadvertently keeping pressure on the battery at the same time (I had the DS fixed together with no screws at the time andwas holding together with my hands) After replacing all the screws, inc the battery cover, the Ds was fine..

So the problem was a) the cable had gone faulty and b) the fuse F2 had blown. The latter was probably done when I was fiddling around in my previous attemtps to fix the DS.

When I press the power button on my ds lite it seems to be trying to power up.The top screen flashes on for a second then the ds dies. I have 2 consoles and have tried swapping batteries but it is still the same. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Did you see this post?

"When you take apart the unit to repair the top screen you'll notice some ribbon cables. The wide ribbon cables go into the clip only one way so there's no problem with them. There is a really small ribbon cable hidden under the wide one. When you put it back together, you have to push the cable in over top of the clip as opposed to underneath which you would normally think of doing. There is a small groove on top of the clip that the cable fits into perfectly. If you put it in underneath, you won't make a connection and the unit will immediately turn off after you turn it on. It's such an easy mistake to make. Of course I made it on two of them. I didn't pay close enough attention to how I took it apart. Hopefully this helps someone else out there that is going nuts over the same problem."

Hinge problem

There out it is nothing like a broken hinge only repair solution, the only way to get it repaired is to buy a new replacement shell and replace the broken parts or the whole shell, but some cheap shells wont last and will broke again so read reviews. And if you are not too skilled be careful when replacing or you can get your DS more damaged.

The best is to find a good case broken DS, like water damage etc. to get only the original plastic parts. I should love to have to buy only the broken parts needed but you have to buy the whole thing.

Green screen

There is a ribbon that connects the top screen of the ds to the motherboard. It is possible that this ribbon became damaged when the hinge broke. A possible fix would be to replace the upper screen. Hope this helps.
