I'm afraid that the battery you bought as new, in fact is a battery that was in the shop for years, and can't hold enough power.
If you camera works normal for one minute and does not run hot or even gets warm, I think the battery is not as good as you think.
Can't find since when the camera is around, but my guess is the camera is not that new anymore.
Please recharge the battery and use it, and than recharge it again It could take a few charge cycles, before the battery gets its full capacity, but don't expect wonders.

I can't decide for you if you need a new camera, but this world in developing so fast. The cameras are getting better and better and in the same time cheaper. When a brand takes a model out of production they also stop making batteries for that model. The only luck a buyer can have is when they use the battery in newer models. But also the batteries are changing. Getting smaller with same capacity. Sometimes you can have luck. I own a Kodak camera since 2005 and the battery is still functioning as the day I bought the camera. Some batteries are bad within less than 2 years. On my last camera I use a battery grip with AA sized batteries. From these I lost at least 7 last year, because they can't be charged to the full capacity. I think you now can buy a nice camera, with foto quality at least twice what of your old camera, for half the price you payed a couple of years ago. Look on the computer to your photos. Try to find out what part of the zoom you use the most. Try to find out if you are using the zoom to the extreme lot of the time, or if you stay in a certain area. That can be helpful in deciding you want a camera with a huge zoom range or just a small zoom range. And if you want more wide or more tele. If you wanly to see what "professionals" think of a camera, go to where you can read all about old and new cameras. Lots of reviews and comparing possible before you decide if and when to by a new camera.

I think he battery life is really short - but it's rediculously short and frustating. The camera has been rarely used so it's isapionting if it's broken

SOURCE: battery life

I bought a few SL400R.. yes I think this is the best camera ever. The battery that came with the cameras always would last very short time, especially in cold weather. But when I ordered new ones online, these would last very long. The specs of the new batteries are the same as the original ones. Go figure. After that I ordered external charger too, so I dont need to use the camera's built-in charger. Works very well.

Light on the charger is not on when plugged in n

If the red light on the charger is not on when plugged in then the internal fuse has blown. This can happen if the batteries have been drawn down too far for the charger. If the batteries are really discharged too far, then you'll have to use an automotive style charger to recharge the batteries individually. Do not use an automatic charger. The last time I did a recharge of a depleted battery using an external charger it took 3 days (72 hrs) of continuous charging to recover the batteries. If this doesn't work then the batteries will need to be replaced as well as the fuse inside the 24 volt charger.

Will not charge when plugged in

have you tried an external battery charger and a different battery?..... maybe its the camera not sending power to the battery..... or the battery is good and the camera is dead, the external charger will help you decide where the fault is.

Nikon L110 battery getting discharge in few clicks

It could be a bad battery charger circuit in your camera. Try charging your batteries in an external charger. sells an Delcon Devices external battery charger for $9.95. If that works, your problem is solved. If not, you will need to send the camera to Nikon USA for repair.

I put a new battery in my camera charged it. Used the camera till the battery ran down. Now it won't charge . This is the second battery I've bought every time I try to charge it won't charge.

It takes over 7 hours to charge, so did you leave it charge overnight?

But while the original battery is chargable, disposable replacements are not. Here is what the manual says:

{ ...
The supplied battery is a Li-ion battery. It charges while in the camera using the supplied charger. The camera can also use a Duracell CP1 disposable Li battery, which has the same form factor as the supplied Li-ion cell. HP claim the Li-ion cell will provide power for approximately 200 shots under "average" use and 100 shots with "extensive use of the LCD and flash".
Charge time for the battery using the supplied charger and in-camera charging is 5-7 hrs for a fully depleted battery. In the optional docking station, charging takes 2.5-3.5 hrs and using the optional rapid charger, charging takes 1-2 hrs. ... }

I have had my pentax potio 60 for over ayear but hardly used it. Now i want to use it. i had tried many times to charge using the recommended 2 AA batteries but does not charge. or after taking a single...

The Pentax Optio 60 does not charge batteries. You must purchase a battery charger and rechargable batteries and charge them yourself.
The AC Power Adapter cable just powers the camera, it does not charge the batteries.

Hope this helps.

Power drain would be a better solution in this case.
1.first shut down the comp
2.unplug the charger
3. remove the battery
and after press and hold the power button for 60 seconds without any charger and the battery. After the 60 seconds replug the battery and the charger and turn the computer .
