Re: maytag dryer

Your door switch might be defective and/or your timer might be defective. If it has a fuse inside it might be blown.

What will cause my maytag dryer to throw the breaker when i try to start it

Not a dryer pro but if the dryer is on a circuit that's already loaded up, or is overloading your current one (amps wise) that could cause it, and especially if the breaker is weak. Could be shorted capacitor or drive motor, or heating coil short situation. (wire melts, ends up shorting against housing). If the breaker checks out, suspect the heater element next, motor last, I'd say. Good luck. Maytag Dryer Trips Breaker

I have a Maytag Dryer Model No HYE3657AYW and it will not start at all. The inside light does not even come on. I checked the circuit breaker and no luck there either. Any suggestions?

a dryer is not working at all that's not good! But it doesn't mean you need to go appliance shopping just yet. It may be something very simple like a broken door latch, a bad door switch or even a broken door switch actuator, in a kenmore dryer there is a tab thats sticks out of a hole in the wall that allows the dryer to run only if the door is shut, other models may have button that protrudes out of the dryer and when the door is shut, this allows the dryer to run. These switches go out from time to time, also if a dryer is full of lint build-up over time this will cause the dryer high limit or fuse to blow. The fuse is located near where the blower is in most cases. When the air in the dryer gets way too hot the fuse/hi-limit will blow and the house wont burn down.

Maytag Atlantis electric dryer Model

Check the following to address this issue.

1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses. An electric dryer uses two circuit breakers or fuses, and if only one of two is tripped or blown, the dryer might still run but not heat. Sometimes the power cord disconnects or burns at the dryer, if this is the case, the wiring and the terminal block must be repaired or replaced.

2. Heating element
A burned out heating element will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Replace the element if found defective.

3. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

I assume that your u.s. dryer is the standard 220 volt, and your question is what is the voltage in Mexico where your father resides. Most places in Mexico will have the 220 volt supply available. This should be easily found out with any cheap 15.00 meter. If the receptacle accepts the dryers plug, it is more than likely the proper voltage.
( Maybe your father is really wanting to save energy and realizes that his clothes will last forever when they are hung up to dry! )

Maytag Electric Dryer Stopped Working

Check spring tab behind door switch-if it's bent/out of adjustment, circuit will act like door is always open.

To confirm this, open door, set dryer to active setting, and hold in door switch; if it comes on, then it's either the spring tab, or the switch is malfunctioning
