SOURCE: Vertical Lines in the Monitor
Unofortunatly your monitor is going going going and maybe gone. If you are still under warranty call Dell ASAP, but it turns out that this issue is very common. There have been lots of complaints of monitors only lasting as long as the warranty period.
The only real solution is to replace the LCD. It is any easy fix for a DIY project if you have a bit of time and patience, if you dont then you are looking at spending on anywhere from 200 - 500 on parts and labor.

what i recommend you to test is to press behind your monitor and see that the line goes off or not.If it does..that mean you have a loose connection,it can be fix.Incase no then you have problem with your LCD.Normally if its LCD problem then you fix this problem, all you have to do is change the LCD.

My understanding is that you have 2 laptops with the same problem, if that is the case, you need to replace the lcd. When you have lines on lcd's, that is a sign of a bad lcd.

To date, HP has refused to repair these defective laptops despite being fully aware that the problems do exist. The only real solution that I'm aware of is to write to the BBB (the one in California located near HP's Executive Offices). HP agreed to repair my laptop at no charge after I went this route. To the best of my knowledge, they replaced the display as I no longer have the vertical lines. It appears that they may have also reduced the processor speed as the computer runs much cooler than it ever did before HP made the repair. It's been several months since the repair was made and, so far, no problems whatsoever. Hopefully that will continue.
