When I push the power button, the light is red. The red light will then get brighter, pulse once, then dim, then get brighter once more. The light then turns white as normal but will then switch off. I've had the PSU out to have a look at the capacitors but cannot find any that have burst or leaking. I can hear the relay clicking on and off as it normally would. I've given the PSU a clean in the hope that this might be the cause but no cigar. Can anyone give any advice on what might be the cause before I go and buy a new PSU. Oh yeah, the TV is 18 months old

Pulse? you mean the elevation mechanism is oscillating? or the lights go dim and then bright like you were constantly on the dimming switch? if this, there is a dimming switch/relay that operates from a single pulse from your driver's dimming switch. I am guessing you have a cross over from power supply and engine vibration does the pulse. Follow the headlight wire back from to a little box, probably metal. Check all connections and possible crossover. It could be within the switch and going haywire. You may be able to listen to the continuous clicking. You may be able to rebuild it, but may not be worth it. So buy a new one. If it's the elevation mechanism, there may be a similar relay for the motor but connected to the lights on switch. There may be a faulty relay, or again viabrating donnection with a make break operation.
the light switch is in the power up button...turn the unit on let it boot up then push power button to set light as you want it do not hold down power button that will just turn unit off.. push the power button just one time if you want light brighter push till you get the back light you want
You probably have one or the other of the remotes pictured below:
In both cases, if you press and HOLD the button labeled "Light / Dimmer" (top remote) or the top round button with the light bulb icon on it (bottom remote), the intensity of the lamp will become brighter until it is at maximum and then become dimmer until it almost turns off . If you continue to hold the button, it will begin to get brighter once again. Pressing the button quickly simply turns it off when it is on, and on when it is off.
The buttons on the remote leave a bit to be desired as far as how well they work. You should keep an eye on the red LED indicator while pressing any button. If it fails to light the command is never sent. If it stops lighting while holding a button in, (to send a dimming or brighten command to the lamp) the command stops being sent and the intensity of the lamp no longer changes. I have found that sometimes I have to press the edge of the button to get them to work. If yours is giving you trouble - you might try that, too.
