Dyson dc 50 is notsucking intothe canister


Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I can confirm that it's normal for dust and debris inside the clear bin not to spin. There are ribs called 'baffles' at the base of the clear bin, which capture debris and force it to settle.

However if the machine doesn't seem to be picking up as well as it should be, there may be a blockage in the cleaner head, internal hose or airways. This is quick and easy to check for and resolve, just follow the steps shown in our online Support guide: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc50/dc50-animal/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usualdc50/dc50-clearing-the-brush-bar-video

You may also want to give the two lifetime filters a wash using cold water without detergent. In normal use we recommend washing the filters at least once a month. Allow at least 24 hours for both filters to dry completely before replacing them in the machine.

I'm confident removing any blockages and giving the filters a wash will restore full performance to your DC50. Charging problem


If the internal battery won't charge, then the battery is likely defective. Contact Garmin to find out your options. Whether still under warranty or not, they can usually repair it for less than the cost of replacing it. They're a good company with a good reputation for customer service.

From what you've described in your question, it sounds very likely that you have a blockage somewhere between the cleaner head and the bin. Please follow the steps shown in the video above to locate any obstructions from the cleaner head, and to remove any threads or hair from around the brush bar.
