I've had the same problem as well...the only thing I've found to work is letting it sit for a day or two and trying it again. It's happened to me three times and is VERY annoying!

  • mimi12 Nov 25, 2007

the same thing happens and i let it sit 4 a couple of days and nothing happened

  • silentone Dec 22, 2007

I can power up but it will not scroll down.

i have the same problem, it will work 4 a bit and then not work at all.
sometimes when you scroll down itll scroll up and sometimes just scroll up to the top and do nothing else! its really annoying! the only solution is to put it on shuffle all! but then sometimes mine decides to go off that! =( leaving it does not work!

same thing, I've tried to take it apart, but darn thing still holds on even without the screws, can you give instructions on how to take it apart?

  • dirp Feb 28, 2008

I used to be able to scroll down to shuffle all, but now I can't even do that. Problem first started about 4 months ago with trying to go up with the touchpad. Everything besides touch recognition works great, even pressing down on the middle of the touchpad.

  • Marky510 May 28, 2008

I have the same problem as well, can't scroll up or down. I went to partstore.com and bought the wrong piece to replace touchpad. When order this touch pad, what do they list it as and a part number would be great. Is it called KEY-TOUCH;YP-Z5,FILMKEY-TOUCH;YP-Z5,FILM ?

    Thanks for any input.

My touchpad won't scroll down either. In addition, when I decided just to listen to what my player would play it got cut off in the middle. Does it pay to try to fix this or is it better to just get a new one? If so I would get an iPod if only because so many accessories are made for it. I was in a foreign country last year and tried to get a cable for my Samsung but they only had cables for iPods.

The touchpad problem is a hardware fault. I have bought a couple faulty ones of these with this problem. I bought some other faulty ones from ebay and just replaced the touchpads. It is easy enough to do.

The good thing about the player is it is easy to take apart and replace anything and wont leave it looking like a wreck when you are finished.

I would re install the touch pad driver. Go to Toshiba.com, select your country and find your laptop. Select support and download drivers. Whilst there download the latest drivers for everything.

Unlock scroll key

Toshiba laptop computers use multi-function touchpads, which often have software features added to the touchpad manufacturer's basic package. If your Toshiba laptop's touchpad won't scroll but its other functions are working, you may simply need to adjust your settings. If the problem occurs suddenly, try restarting your computer before resorting to other methods. Sometimes the addition of new software or other features can interfere temporarily with the touchpad driver, interrupting the scrolling feature. If a simple restart does not restore your touchpad's scrolling feature, check its properties through the control panel. The exact options for doing so will vary by laptop model and operating system.

Click "Start," then "Control Panel." Navigate to "Mouse," which may be under "Hardware and sound" or a similar category, depending on your operating system. Select the "Touchpad" tab in the "Mouse" window. This tab will also list the touchpad manufacturer, most often Synaptics on Toshiba computers. If you have more than one built-in pointing device, as is the case with the touchscreen model Toshiba Portege series, choose the "Hardware" tab and select your touchpad, then click "Settings." Select "Properties," "Settings," "Advanced" or the similar option on your system. Click the box next to "Enable scrolling" if this option is available. For Synaptics touchpads, you may have a list of options; click the arrow to the right of "Scrolling" to open the scrolling list and select one-finger or two-finger scrolling to access the specific features. Click to enable any scrolling features you desire, then select "Adjust scrolling region" or the similar option, if available. Drag the scrolling region to cover a larger portion of the touchpad if you want to ensure you can scroll easily. Click "Ok" to apply any changes and close the options windows. Keep clicking "Ok" until all of the windows with this option are closed. Restart your computer if prompted. Your scrolling feature should be enabled.

The touch mouse will scroll and move but won't click.

you might have to reset it
Most modern laptops with touchpads offer vertical scrolling, horizontal scrolling or both. These features are located along the right-hand and bottom edges of the touchpad, respectively, and are activated when you swipe your finger along the touchpad edge. Scrolling functionality is nearly always enabled by default, but some users find the feature an annoyance and elect to turn it off. In most cases you can simply turn the feature back on using the Windows Control Panel.

Click the Windows Start button, select "Settings," and then click "Control Panel." Double-click the icon labeled "Mouse." Select the Touchpad properties tab. The labeling of this tab varies, depending on your computer manufacturer, operating system version and the device drivers installed on your machine. Common labels include "Touch Pad," "Device Settings" and "Dell Touchpad." If you do not see this option, you may not be able to turn on scrolling for your laptop; skip the remaining steps and refer to the "Warnings" section below. Click the "Settings" button within the Touchpad Properties menu and look for the section labeled "Scrolling Settings" or similar. Enable scrolling within this section and define other scroll settings, such as scroll zone width and scrolling speed. Click "OK" to confirm your changes, and then close the Control Panel windows opened in the previous steps. The scrollbar on your laptop is now enabled.
Scroll Is Not Working With Windows 7 b> Certain computer touchpads have a vertical section on the pad itself that is used to scroll through the page or program window that you are currently viewing on your computer. If the scroll functionality suddenly stops working but the actual touchpad is still fine, this means that the part of the software for the device that controls the ability to use the scroll has been disabled. You can enable it again in the Control Panel.
Click "Start." Click "Control Panel." Click "Mouse." Select the "Enable Scroll" option (or whatever similarly named option is available on your specific model of laptop computer). Click "Apply." The scroll bar on your touchpad will now work again.

Automatic scroll does not work on touchpad unless you hold down the left click button

This can be set to scroll for you as it is a simple setting in the mouse control panel.

Go to your start menu and open Control panel, select classic view in the top left corner if there are less than 20 icons(pictures) in the menu. Now double click on the mouse icon. Click on the advanced tab. then select your synaptec device in the list and click the properties button below.

There are several options on the menu, one will say "Virtual Scrolling"
Check the box beside Vertical Scrollong and then click OK on this window and the mouse window.

Close the control panel and you're on your way.

I hope this helps Fixya,

Chris

I would go to this link and select your device and download the driver/software for your device. Try to reinstall the driver/software.

Note:
Fn-F9 is a hot key combination that will enable/disable the touchpad.

I have lost the ability to scroll using the right vertical edge of the touch pad. Otherwise the pad works fine but it is annoying not being able to scroll any more without moving the cursor to the 'scroll...

The option to enable or disable the scrolling option for the notebook touchpad is generally available by going to the Control Panel, then selecting Mouse. Within that area, go to Device Settings, select the touchpad from the list of available devices, then click Settings. There should be an option for "virtual scrolling" - click on it, and you should be given the options to turn on or off both horizontal and vertical scrolling for the touchpad control.
