Depending on the hoist that you are renting the capacity ranges from 4000 lbs. to 8000 lbs. Before you start loading up your hoist make sure to check the capacity of the one you're renting.

What is the weight limit on Spirit Airlines for a check in suitcase?

hi deborah.
Checked bags: Maximum of 62 linear inches (length + width + height; 158 cm) including handles and wheels and maximum of 40 pounds in weight (18.1 kg). Any bag that exceeds these dimensions or weight limit is considered oversized/overweight and has a corresponding charge.

What safety tips should I follow when using lifting hoists?

Lifting hoists are tasked with the pivotal job of lifting heavy loads that would otherwise be rather impossible to lift. Used in many industries worldwide, there are various safety tips and guidelines one should follow thoroughly, to ensure both the safety of the workers, and to extend the lifting hoist's lifespan. The equipment should first be inspected before and after every use, so as to make sure there are no defects and that the equipment is clean, as slight issues with the equipment could be dangerous if left unattended for any period of time. One should also always be aware of the lifting load limit of the lifting hoist and comply to this limit - never, for any reason, exceed this limit! This can be extremely dangerous, as placing too much strain on the lifting hoist can cause it to break. These are just a couple of the number of factors that could cause a normally sound piece of equipment to be dangerous. To find out more on this topic, this handy infographic from Lifting Hoists Direct, titled "Safety Tips for the Effective Use of Lifting Hoists" was helpful in answering all my questions.

I have a 2012 Mazda 2. Sitting on the road and turning the steering wheel 90 degrees right and left it makes a clunking noise. Put up on a hoist and doing the same it makes no noise. What is it.

the noise is generated by the weight on the points that are turning
the hoist you should be using is a 4 post hoist that the car drives on and the wheels are still on the hoist
any hoist that leaves the wheels dangling in the air will not be suitable to find the fault
most likely a steering ball joint end , suspension ball joint or failed suspension rubber mount

Threading the rope

It probably doesn't matter too much, but do a few trials with light or no weight on it to see what works best and do it that way. You might find that with trials you will understand the directions better.

Do I need a permit to rent or put up a buck hoist?

Needing a permit to build a buck hoist depends on where you are building it. Only a few states in the US require you to get a permit and the elevator to be inspected. Indiana, Michigan, Arkansas, Washington, Nevada, North Carolina, California all require you to get a permit.

My daughter is in grade 8 and they have to make a hoist - what materials do on euse - how will we join hoist - what methods will we use to strengthen the hoist - what constraints will we have and how will...

Your request is a little sketchy but here is a place to begin. Estimate how the total weight you want to raise. Purchase a rope rated for at least twice what you estimated. You will a need a frame and attach hardware capable of carrying twice the estimate too.
Now it gets fairly easy:
1. two single eye pulleys with 100 pounds tension pulled 1 foot will raise 100 pounds 1 foot.
2. two double eye pulleys (2 loops of rope) with 100 pounds of tension pulled 1 foot will raise 200 lbs 6 inches.
3. two triple eye pulleys (3 loops of rope) with 100 pounds of tension pulled 1 foot will raise 300 lbs 4 inches.
You should see the relationship.
Please for her safety don't exceed the rating of any of the materials.

I've invested time and research in this solution. Please invest some of your own and rate my answer. GL
