Question about Garden

1 Answer

On the FS45 if i spray the slightest amount of degreaser around the carby area the engine dies.

Some time ago I took my line trimmer into a reputable dealer as it would die when on full revs. They said it was the fuel filter which they replaced at a cost of $95 (basic service charge) The problem still remains and when I questioned them they responded may be further items requiring attention. If I spend another $95 I've basically outspent the cost of a new machine. Ive replaced the plug and it has new clean fuel in the tankk

SOURCE: my TB475SS starts and then dies right away. i

It usually wont idle very well when it's cold, Goto #1 on the choke give the rope a couple of "quick" tugs, and then move it to #2 Give it one or 2 more tugs with a little throttle, now it should be running witha little throttle, let it run like that for a minute then move it to #3 kinda still pumping the throttle a little and it should take off fine. If this is the 4 stroke, mine did the same thing until it was broke in good. (About 4-5 uses), now I have to say its more reliable than any 2-stroke I've owned and I use it commercially. 1st or 2nd pull everytime and is ready as soon as it fires! Hope this helps!

SOURCE: My Echo power edge trimmer

I was having the same problem and stood there while the tech fixed it for me. I could have done it myself; honestly, nothing to be afraid of. Take the air cleaner off and then take the carburetor off and start taking it apart layer by layer (remove screws and take pictures with a digital camera of how to put it back). It is not complicated and it was a small piece of grass stuck where you never thought it could get that allowed a start but not full throttle.

SOURCE: st185 Homelite string trimmer starts then dies

I resolved my problem by taking apart the carborator and cleaning it. There were clogged passaged that had stuff come out of them when I used airisol carb cleaner to blow them out. I only had to make one gasket the carb mount gasket which is pretty basic only 5 holes.
It ran for the next 3 hours, ran fantastic!!!!!!

If it has a caby then check why the float is not controlling the needle and seat that controls the amount of fuel into the carby. Check the needle and seat for something like a hair or the rubber on the needle is cracked or the seat is loose in the carby body. Concentrate on the carby as the over fuelling problem is in that area. Check that the choke is not coming on

93 toyota pickup 4x4 it will stay running after I turn it on to start it up, it starts up then after a few seconds it kills

if I'm reading this right...
... the engine starts and dies within a few seconds.
... you jumpered the fuel pump test connector and it will keep running.
... you smell fuel after trying to re-start when it dies.

Disconnect the plug to the cold start injector. Even if you have an issue with the engine running then dying after a few seconds after doing this, if you don't smell fuel after disconnecting the cold start injector and try to restart it, the cold start time injector time switch may be failing.

Buy a can of starting fluid and have someone start the engine then spray short bursts of the fluid around all the intake fittings. If spraying the fluid in any particular area keeps the engine running, I'd start looking for leaks around that area.

It does sound like an AFM or COR issue considering it dies after a few seconds, but the fuel smell when trying to restart the engine may be a separate issue that needs corrected / isolated first.it will keep running.

How to change the cutting line in a curved shaft fs45 *******

No, I'm not sure why STIHL even makes curved shaft trimmers at all. I have never worked on ine in 10 years of being a STIHL tech, I just throw them out when they don't work and steer the customer to a straight-shaft. It's their punishment for the mistake of buying the curved shaft in the first place.

Lawn trimmer Petrol powered

hello sir, my machine will only start when pumping primmer bulb or squirting fluid in the carburetor than stops. the fuel line has broken off, in most small carburetors this is a ongoing problem.old fuel will crystallize when left in tank for a long time.plugging up ports, fuel lines, small screen in carburetor.fuel lines will dissolve clogging carb.this is why it will run when the choke is on creating a vaccum to where there is fuel forced in the carb to rum, also the gas will evoporate leaving the oil behind clogging up carb.the thing to do is remove carb. and clean out, replaceing gaskets or fuel line if necessory.use carb cleaner to clean out carb.make sure to make note where fuel line go.the fuel filter broke off of fuel line letting debris get in carb plugging it up.the muffler is known to clog up a lot on these machines where thay want run. the compression should be 60 to 120 lbs any thing below 60 is junk. when adjusting the carb screws turn in all the way than turnout 1 1/4 turns turn in slow untail machine runs also you need to check for spark by removing plug and grounding aginst engine to chech spark, ok.a new spark plug would be a good ideal too , if you are going to make these repairs use new fuel line and filter, hope this helps, any comments welcome, thank you, 33

Starts then dies stihl fs45/weedeater

I sounds like it sucked up some debris in the bottom of the fuel tank and obstructed fuel flow somewhere. Start by blowing out the in-tank fuel filter (You will have to fish it out with something), then load the line with carb cleaner (wear safety glasses) put fuel filter back in line and crank it a few times to pull the carb cleaner into the carb. This may dislodge the obstruction. If this doesn't work, you will have to remove and cleant he carburator. Hope this helps.

Not a problem but more like a question or opinion...

Don;t pour that on the valve train! They make an internal engine degreaser that you add to the oil the last 100 miles before an oil change to get rid of that sludge. If you have alot of sludge you need to change oil more often.

Craftsman 32cc Line Trimmer pull start will not engage engine.

With a flashlight, look into the area just in front of the pull rope. You'll see the fins on the flywheel. Turn the flywheel with a small screwdriver until you see a bracket mounted on it. There's is one on each side. While holding the flywheel still with another screwdriver, spray penatrating oil on each one and work them back and forth a few times. You'll feel them loosen up. They are spring loaded and should snap back into place. Hope you can understand this. Good luck.
