Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDP-65WS550 65" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Color distortion issues

The picture quality is not affected, however the coloration is very distorted. Blues look green, greens look gray and reds are very bright almost to the point of looking fluorescent. I have moved the hd cables from slot 6 to slot 5 with no improvement. Any other suggestions? Thank you kindly for your help! - Cassie

The picture suddenly became distorted with three archs at the top of the screen (red, blue & green I think). Is this a bulb that burnt out that I can replace?

no bulb the fact you have those three colors tell all tubes are working.... this may be a convergence issue sometimes i have seen this. check to see if you have the convergence option in your menu under setup. distorted in what way

I have a 46" rear projection Mitsubishi TV that recently started producing a wavy picture. The reds, blues, and greens separate into wavy color bands distorting the picture. It usually goes away for...

your problem is most probably in convergence circuit.  very common for this model to have convergence output i.c.'s go bad  also possible that a fused resistor or two has failed.

Samsung DLP hue on the screen, what is the solution to my problem.

Hi,It sounds like it could be the color wheel or DMD.The color wheel is a rotating disc that has a gamma of colors it spins at high rpms. The light of the lamp goes through it to create the colors on your tv.When it starts to go bad you will get color distortion ,black and white picture and sometimes you will hear humming noises. The DMD is another possibility. This is how it works: Basically the light of the lamp goes through a tunnel that carries a color wheel(rotating disc with a gamma of colors that creates the colors on your tv)then the light of the lamp goes through the DMD board which is a chip composed of around 2 million pixels that creates the images and colors. When it starts to fail it will create black bars, pixelation, color distortion or white dots on screens. Here's a video that will help you find where the DMd chip is located : One simple test is to display menu and if it's affected then most like will be an issue w the DMD board.Found the complete set with color wheel and DMD included here: Have a blessed one!

I'm having a problem with the color green being distorted on my TV. Is this a color tube issue, bulb issue, lamp issue?

This is a picture tube type TV. No lamp.
You don't describe the distortion.
A colour green picture that is twisted and shifted away from the other colours is a convergence problem. see Projection TV Convergence on this site.
If the green is smeared, out of focus, larger than the other colours like a halo around objects, things like that, it is the green picture tube. Sony has discontinued most of the picture tubes so you may not be able to get this fixed.

You will need to replace the sub deflection board or convergence I.Cs and check around the circuit for any o/c capacitors or resisters

Phillips Model 60pp920217f

No. your problem is related to the coolant in the green CRT has congealed with bacteria and needs to be changed. Thats what causes the halos and general poor picture and color quality. The blue should be changed also. The red for some reason doesnt seem to be affected by the bacteria problem. This is a common problem that happens with all projection TVs phillips and magnavox TVs

My phillips model 60pp920217f has a horrible green to the color

The green CRT coolant has congealed thats whats giving you the green halos. Change the coolant in the green and blue and your set will be fine. red is never affected so the red coolant should be fine.
