Alot of the X300 series mowers were shipped out of factory with interlock modules that failed often and some were on a fix-as-fail program.Not sure if this is whats wrong with yours but if it was in our shop its the first thing that gets replaced depending on you serial number.Its located just under the front side of dash with a few wires going to it.

I have found the manual at JD's website. Click the link and scroll down in the left column until you find the heading for replacing the belt. I contains big, clear photos. Here is the link:

here is web site adress to go to that page
select f725 ,select sectional index , select mower deck and lift linkage,select mower drive belts sheaves and spindles ,
then a window with deck parts and diagram will appear
print this off
it will give a good idea of belt routing for deck
