Question about Toshiba Tecra 740CDT Notebook
Can you hear the hard drive spinning with clicking sounds? Have you tried booting from a floppy disk? Even if you don't have a boot floppy, try putting any floppy disk in the drive, then turn the computer on. You should see and error message "not a boot disk, change and restart" or similar. If you get that error, then the boot sequence is working, that's good. If you don't, that's bad. Probably a bad motherboard. If you don't hear the hard drive spinning, that's bad, too. Means a dead hard drive. But at least you can replace the HD.

Try taking the battery out and use only the AC. If everything turned out fine, it could be a problem on the battery or on the port.
