If its a two cycle engine the only filter it really needs is a fine mesh brass screen over the intake , micro particulate dirt will go straight thru the carb and combustion chamber with no problems , four cycles they require a nice oiled foam filter that can be purchased new or made from a used bit of pkg foam and pair of sharp scissors , a squirt(not soaked) of bar chain oil into it and its good to go , as the carbs and cylinders will be affected more by small parts of dirt

It has a crack in the fuel line between the body and the tank. The crack lets air in the line. Replace the line.

Here you go. If the price seems high there are likely several more to be found on this page. Good luck with it.

How to clean air filter?

Hi Sharon!

If you have a paper air filter it will need to be replaced, rather than cleaned.

However if you have a foam air filter you can wash it in mild detergent and allow it to completely air dry and put it back into your chainsaw.

Here is a video about how to replace the air filter on a chainsaw, most are pretty similar, so if it's not quite the same brand as yours, it should give you the general idea.

Best of luck!

I cant find a replacement air filter locally, can i use the foam one instead?

Air filter's function is to protect dust going to the carburettor, so I think similar material will work ! (make sure do not effect the air flow)

Chain saw was working fine and shut down suddenly. The gas/oil mixture was bubbling so I let cool. I also cleaned the air filter on the carbureator that was blocked. It still won"t start.

The fuel lines may have become air-locked.This can happen if the tank is run dry. If the saw has a primer bulb, alternatively press it several times and then try to pull start the engine with choke on. Repeat this several times. The primer bulb should feel spongy and fill with fuel.
If you're up to it, you can dismantle the carburettor and clean any dirt from valves. The carburettors on chainsaws, hedge cutters etc. are very fiddly with delicate diaphragms, valves and springs so you have to be careful to avoid damage or loosing parts.
Ensure air filter is clean. Foam elements can be washed with hot water and detergent, squeezed dry in a cloth and re-oiled with a teaspoon of engine oil spread through the foam. Paper elements can be cleaned with compressed air blown from the inside of the filter but ideally should be replaced.
Check fuel lines aren't kinked or blocked restricting fuel flow.
Ensure fuel filter isn't dirty. This is probably located at the end of the fuel line in the tank.
Check the throttle cable is actuating the throttle plate in the carburettor.
Check whether there is a vent on the tank or on fuel cap. There is usually a valve on this to allow air into tank to replace fuel as it leaves for the carburettor. Ensure this isn't blocked.

I just rebuilt my zama carburetor on my husqvarna saw and it still doesnt run right and i have blowed out my fuel filter and checked all lines and even tried to adjist the carburetor and it still cranks...

Check there are no kinks in fuel line.
Make sure that the air filter isn't blocked.
Check the throttle cable is operating the throttle plate in the carburettor ok.
Ensure chain isn't too tight.
The carburettor should be a tight fit on the air inlet manifold.
It's possible that some of the jets could be blocked in the carburettor. You can try and clean these with compressed air but ensure you remove any seals gaskets, springs on the diaphragm pump , primer bulb etc as they can be damaged by the pressure.
You can also buy
an aerosol can of starter fluid at your local autoparts store. This is sprayed into the carburettor to clear any partial blockages.

Homelite 16" 33cc chainsaw. Sarts but win't keep

Hello rick.... Get an aerosol can of starter fluid at your local autoparts store. Also get an assistant. Remove the air filter and start it up. Have your helper squirt some starter fluid into the air intake to keep it running for a couple minutes until the partial blockage in the carburater clears. Joe

Thanks for choosing Fixya!
